Quake hits Chile, Tsunami alert in Sth Pacific: Ping DA

Hey DA, are you OK over in your side of the Pacific?
A quake hit the coast of Chile last night, measuring 8.8. I've never heard of one being that big, it was around 800 times more potent than the Haiti quake. The whole eastern sea board of Aussie and NZ is on alert. So far the first waves have hit New Zealand's northern most islands, the Chatam's, and the waters have risen by 40 cm. Strike that, its just hit the North of NZ, surges of 1 meter. Hopefully it will peter out by the time it gets to Australia.

Hope you are OK, DA. It sounds like most of Chile was effected.
