Hi all,
I'm ecstatically happy to have gotten these cars back into working order, so that I can re-live my child hood
"Call the cops!" The classic Police Cruiser, ready to intercept..

Triumph TR-7, any wedge shaped car with futuristic pop-up headlights are automatically cool in my book, & this car is one of my favorite examples of 70's car design.

Oh man I loved that set as a kid - still would if I had it. Smash the top of the controller to do a handbrake turn. Get onto the tilting 'see-saw' bridge just before the cop, stop so it tilts and watch them smash into it. Fantastic!
I tried to get that or the equivalent for my kid but they don't make anything that comes close any more (at least not over here). Had to settle for one that does upside down stuff, with the General Lee and Roscoe's car thrown into the mix for fun, But it's not quite the same.

Hi Monkfish,
Are Scalextric sets available in your neck of the woods? the closest modern equivalent I've ever seen is the Batman set wich has the Batmobile & a Gotham City Police car

I did a little research on the net
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powertrack & discovered that the later 12 volt Powertrack cars run on the modern Micro Scalextric track, so it was a simple case of tracking down a couple of good condition cars for donor chassis (the TR-7 turns up frequently) via e-bay & swapping the bodies over from my old set, the guy who I purchased the TR-7 (always TR-7's) must have loads of them!, he seems to list one every week & they're in tip top factory fresh condition.
Check out this site for more info on Matchbox Powertrack
http://powertrackshak.blogspot.com/, the Race & Chase 2 set looks great, with the additon of a Police Helicopter to the mix, it's a real shame it only had a limited retail release.

I'll have to have a good look at all that. Scalextric is available online only here and I didn't want to risk delivery missing Christmas when I got the kid a set so I'm tied into another system for now. I'm going to see what bodies can fit on the chassis type his set uses, perhaps with a bit of encouragement using a scalpel, 'cos the Dukes cars I've got are on paper the right type for the current track but don't have magnets so can't handle the aerial sections of the circuit.
