My Vintage GI Joe Man-Cave (all vintage, all the time!)
Posted: 29 Jan 2010 18:32
Hi Gents,
I wanted to show off my vintage GI Joe collection. I had a reasonable collection as a child in the mid 1980's, but sold, traded, and outright smashed it when I was about 10 (talk about dumb!).
I started up again about 10 years ago and have been steadily building it here and there, where I can find nice pieces for a good price. The last 3 years have seen the most expansion and I have also branched out into collecting catalogs, poster, newsletters, and other paperwork. My new thing is finding any foreign paperwork (I especially like the Action Force line).
The room takes up about half of the basement in the house. This collection was boxed up for years until last May when we moved, so it was great to get it out and on display. I made all of the display tables, shelves, and figure display.
A lot of the figures you see with the vehicles are customs that I did myself using beater figures that were in rough shape.
Thought you guys would enjoy some photos, so I took a lot of them...

Some Fan club posters

The Terrordrome!

1986-87 Cobra Vehicles

I love the AF artwork in the comic series.

I used to have a lot of 25th anniversary customs but sold most of them recently. I decided to keep my favorites, including a lot of the international ones.

The Flagg

Some Night Force Customs (Ripcord, Flash, Hit & Run)

Night Force Slipstream

More NF Customs. The Blades is a custom. Actually, the only authentic international figure I have (aside from some Funskool stuff) is the Argentinian Sgt Slaughter next to Blades.

Below the Flagg is a shelf that I have my 1985-88 era vehicles on:

Vintage Boxes (I started picking up a few more of these recently)

1983-86 Uncut Cardbacks & assorted paperwork

1986-88 Uncut Cardbacks (and more paperwork)

I am still missing a few triple win game pieces....

Figure display cabinet. This has hinged sides and slots in the shelves to slide in plexiglass, but I have not gotten around to doing that yet.
All of the figures are 100% complete, with cut filecards too.

The Defiant! This is 100% complete, but I do have a few broken parts that I am looking to replace.

Shelf with 1982-84 vehicles

Remaining 1988 uncut cardbacks and more paperwork

My meager collection of uncut international cardbacks

Japanese filecards

AF Paperwork

Some Belgian stuff and Steel Brigade and Mobile Strike Force fan club papers:

Mobile strike Force Fan Club Newsletters (the empty spot is for the one 1983 newsletter I am missing):

1982 Vehicles

1983 vehicles

Some SNAKES (the Escape Armor and grey SNAKEs are customs)

Desert Joe Team customs

HQ

Eels

Cobra Desert Team

1984 Vehicles

The Ar Puro is a custom too

Cobra Urban Ops Attack Chopper

I am working on a custom SAS Dragonfly and a Red Shadows Dragonfly helicopter. They should be done soon but are waiting on stickers from Cobrastickers.
I also have a bunch of new custom figures in progress.
