Space Station

A new bright star in the sky at Christmas? ...

...well, perhaps not so bright unless they want to give Red Laser some easy target practice.

But anyway, I made the kids some toys for Christmas, and the for the lad decided to do the Space Station.

Stickers cannabilised from scans of AF, Star Trek or just made up. The bunk room just had to be based on Red Dwarf.

Had to make it play-tough, hence the large wooden struts all over the place, and what with me being a fat-handed twat it's not the most refined custom, but really, really enjoyable to make and the lad loves it.

(Kraken is beginning to think he should lay off the booze for a while 'cos he's sick of waking up on Boxing Day and finding himself in space pokey.)

I hope you made a template for that? I want a copy, gotta build one. So the station has an IQ the same as 6,000 PE teachers or 12,000 car park attendants? That's the best bit of Homage I've seen in ages. Well done, mate.

it's also a sophisticated station since it's using the LCARS computer system!

Cheers for all the nice comments.

Sundance I couldn't resist using star trek control panels - according to them this thing's armed with photon torpedos and warp capability...

I slightly cheated for that bit - it's a repainted 'emergency firefighter kit' from the local dollarama - a late addition that couldn't be left out once I'd spotted it. The suit is part of the mould, but things like the axe do separate.

The chairs are from the tactical battle platform and there's a ladder from the Flagg hidden in the stairwell, but the rest is a handmade mix of wood and plumbing parts. The cell door opens too!

Chopper, I think the plans are on 7 or 8 different bits of paper and card, which explains some of the gaps...

The dimensions were a real compromise - it's 30cm by 50cm at its widest - the biggest I could make the toy without it getting too bulky or heavy, but not a lot of room inside, but then I figured that a real space station would be tight for space.

Brilliant, mate love it. Where did you get those seats from? I am currently working on a similiar project but things like the seats are proving hard to come by.
