Ok, so it wasn't the winter of 1947, and it wasn't as if Eisenblut was plaguing us with virtual snow - alas - though it was only four years until Xmas 1983, and five years till Op Claymore but: anyone else have a general sledging and no-school snowdrift fest whilst cut-off from the rest of the world back then?
Had a great time. In those days a 20-foot snowdrift looked every bit as impressive as a 20-metre one I saw in the Caucasus this time in 2005. Even if the latter was replete with an ice-waterfall too.

I can recall the summer (Pommy winter) of 79 in NZ as being bloody good, I was 7. There was the sandpit (probably loaded with Action Man parts) where warfare and matchbox car racing occurred. I think it was that year it actually snowed in Rotorua come to think of it. A VERY rare occurrence. 79 was a big year for me, but no snow drifts

But it's exactly the snowing in Rotorua that matters! Southern hemisphere got monstered too! Woo-hoo! Love 1979!
Have to admit, I was still approaching five, but was still running around like a headless chicken high on tea and mars bars and snow, what a combo. And very headless in those snowdrifts too. Thank the Lord for duffel coats and

balaclavas.
And to think the Falklands had still not kicked off.

"Alright officer? I've only had a couple of ales!"

"I've still got the range to hit the top of the Jebel."

"Whilst mincing on Otterburn and the north German plain, Darwin was still but an apple in

's eye."

"Zat does not rhyme, but I am not Baader-Meinhof-slotting complaining."
