does anyone collect the straight arm joes? i know lots of folk don't seem to like them much is it the poseability of the figures that make them undesirable? i like them and have a few now which i intend to increase as time goes on. any opinions on this.

Ew no. None of them ever made it to NZ so they are well off my to get list. Toltoys (and Palitoy) started with 1.5's thankfully. the 1.5's are real posers.

it's quite interesting that we collect the palitoy range as straight arm and yes the display differences is huge, but the hasbro straight arm are shunned, it is personnal taste it makes me wonder why they made them in the first place only to change them to swivel arm shortly afterwards.

Well at a guess they designed the figures, released them for sale and then someone went "hey, we could add another articulation point above the elbow"

I have never been into them as like everyone else says the poseability isn't there and it takes away from being fully jointed.
They seem to go for big money on the 'bay though, I accidentally got one in a lot recently- still not that impressed.
1.5 (+swivel head) all the way! (even over modern too!)

I love those little bastards. My first joes were straight arms. So, getting all 16 was my first major goal as a collector. To me they are very important, because they were the first joes released in the 3 3/4 size. If they had not benn successful, then we would not have gotten any of the swivel arm figures that followed.

I think that's the point the SA Joes are nostalgic to our friends in the U.S. in the same way straight limbed Action Force are nostalgic to us, it all depends on what you grew up with.
