I wish I had the same problem mate!
Just kidding
Have you got space in the middle of the room for them free standing Ikea glass display units?

What about fixing other extra shelves in between the existing ones that have only figures standing on them?

Thanks...I was thinking to myself.. "this may sound a bit stupid" as I was typing it.
As long as you still have enough hight to stand them up O.K. it should work a treat.
I've also seen sort of 1/2 shelving on the past..hard to explain, you have one wide shelve, the next one above that is 1/2 the width, then a wide shelve again above the 1/2 width one..& so on, so you can have taller items on the wide shelves & smaller items on the wide ones.
I don't know if you understand it from my bad description? But I've seen toy soldiers displayed like this before with horse mounted & flag carrying troops displayed on the wide shelves & normal foot soldiers on the 1/2 width ones.

Or get some deeper shelving. I like 45cm racking myself.

you'll just have to dispatch some of your forces to take over another room

Wow, such an amazing collection in a very short time - good on yer, most envious!
This might sound daft or grandma-sucking-eggs obviously flawed, but could you flesh out the corners too?
I mean that where you have two shelves meeting in a 90 degree (or so) corner you 'cut the corner' with a triangular shelf that would stick out between the two, making more room for not just item placement but perhaps scene setting too?
Like:
-----
shelf 1
-----
|s|..../
|h|.../ <--- edge '/' is the new bit of shelf
|e|../
|l|./
|f|/
|2|
