When did Trent make his first appearance in the comics?

Dunno, he was definitely a Marvel-era character though.

That means that Action Force Weekly #1 was his first appearance.

this was one thing that kind of irked me. Why make a new character out of the blue when they had so many great characters they could have already used.
for me I just went in and edited trents name out and replaced it with Buckingham.
made more sense to me for him to retire from active duty combat and just be the liason officer for the new action force

I suspect Marvel didn't have the rights to the Red Shadow era characters.

could be , be curious who, if anyone owns the characters now?
From what I have been able to read on line Hasbro bought Palitoy so I would assume they own the characters now?
I dont know any thoughts?
if hasbro doesnt own the rights then it would be really hard fro Devils Due to bring back the original shadows characters at all

Makes sense if DDP used the Shadows name and logo.
