GI Joe - The Rise of Cobra - UK comic

Post by The Baron »

I picked up a copy of Panini's new GI Joe comic yesterday.

I am very happy to report that the content is all-new material, not IDW reprint!

There is a 16-page strip entitled Warzone [part one] by Ferg Handley (script), John Royle (Pencils), Lee Townsend (Inks) and James Offredi (Colours). The other 20 pages are full of Datafiles, Profiles, Competitions, Quizzes, with only the back page and rear cover being adverts (for the next issue and GI Joe movie respectively).

There is a free gift of a set of Joe stickers and a huge plastic Ammo box, a pull out poster and best of all, a double page spread focusing on customising your own Radar Base! OK, it is clearly aimed at kids, but for £2.25 I'll definitely be picking up the next issue.

 Sadly the enormous free gift sellotaped to the cover makes that impossible!

BTW, I learned this the hard way with the Titan Transformers comics - cut the sellotape with scissors. If you peel it off all you will accomplish is it sticking to the back cover of the next issue and tearing both.

Great thinking re. the con., Jamar!

i bought one this morning. not bad. both excited and disappointed they're not doing IDW reprints. excited cuz it's cool we've got something them yanquis ain't got and disappointing cuz i don't wanna pony up a lot of dosh for the IDW trades if i'm going to hate it...

i removed the free gift by carefully pulling the tape up off the backing card, and then sliding it out, before sticking the tape to the cover...

just an alternate idea...

I got one last night, liked the do-it-yourself Diorama idea. Am tempted to send in a photo of myself to see if they'll make me their "filecard star" inside the back cover.... I know I often lie about my age but I think some serious fibbing would be necessary

Rocket crossbow free next month, nice
On touching the trig point, I found my thrill
To the east Brokeback Mountain, to the west, Benny Hill
I'll give you the grid ref, you might like to go

i'm considering sending in photos from 'my son' of 'his dad's collection' of 80s figures... :D

use a photo of yourself as a kid! that's what i thought!

i'm going to write up a story proposal and some sample script pages and send in, see if they'll be interested. modern versions of Jungle Terror, Desert Strike and a third story, using Joes and AF guys as Joes against Shads...
