Rise of Cobra Toys on Sale

Post by GI Rob »

Don't know if anyone's seen it yet, but I was in Reading Toys R Us today and the Rise of Cobra figures/vehicles etc are on the "Buy one, Get 2nd Half Price" deal.

Not quite sure if this is a good thing or not

This would have been planned well in advance, I dont think its a reaction to poor sales. I used to work for Toymaster and individual members very rarely do this type of thing on their own...

I can't wait to get paid so I can buy some figures I have been told we are getting more ROC products now in Toymaster if only the cinemas would stop being stupid and get the damn film I would be happier.
Spock, where the hell's the power you promised?

I am holding on. They will definetley get discounted, apart from Star Wars I can't remember a film toy line in recent years that has done that well.To be honest I think alot of the recent Star Wars sales were adult collectors or children whose Dads were into the originals.
A couple of months ago my son picked up 4 Indian Jones figures from Asda for 75p each. The Pirates of the Caribbean stuff went the same way and I have a feeling the Terminator toys are heading the same way.
Thinking about it I think that even though I can't stand them, after Star Wars Power Rangers are the only ones that seem to sell.

It's for sure, adults are the main buyers of star Wars figures now a days..Ben 10 seems to be popular with kids still. I think action figures, dispite being ultra accurate, just dont hold the same appeal any more..it's like the authentic look of them is taking something away from the playability of the toys themselves.

The Luke Skywalker figure, I played with as a child, looked looked just enough like him yet different enough for me project a personality of my own onto the toy in my play adventures..thats why Actionman was so perfect, everybody seemed to own one, but every one's Actionman had their own individual personality that the child could make up during play..

Crom, I have never prayed to you before. I have no tongue for it. No one, not even you, will remember if we were good men or bad. Why we fought, or why we died. All that matters is that two stood against many. That's what's important! Valor pleases you, Crom... so grant me one request. Grant me revenge! And if you do not listen, then to HELL with you! -Conan the Cimmerian

Thundershot I think you have summed it up. My son is 7 and his favourites are Z force and SAS force. I have some later Joe stuff and some UK Cobra but given the choice he would rather have the early Palitoy any day. Its the same with the Star Wars he loves all the Vintage stuff I have, especially Luke in the all black outfit from ROTJ and my carboard Death Star.
Maybe the toy manufacturers need to go back to basics. For me the HM forces stuff has been a cock up from start to finish. Overpriced, a mish mash of characters and the fact that they stupdidly released this new toy range in May! I am ex RAF but think that the RAF parachutist is totally off the mark. Watch out for them being the last ones on the shelves when the price goes down to £4.99 each or less.
Ben 10 and Power rangers have been successful through the TV. Ben 10 is a good programme and thats why it sells. Look at the simplisty of lego and there you can see why I bet the Lego sales outstrip the action figure sales for everything I would say apart from Star Wars and Speedracers (mainly because the latter was crap and did'nt sell f@ck all).
