Blood for the Baron!

i need some advice please help. I've recently got my hands on a world peacekeepers black hawk and i want to paint it cobra blue. About the only thing i've custom made myself is a sandwich and i'm unsure how to go about this, do i spray paint it or hand paint? 1 coat or 2? I've really know idea.

Spray would be the best bet for a large vehicle if you can find a match, hand painting can be a bit of a chore on larger things and brush strokes are a problem (not the show...)

Also take it apart as much as you can before painting so you dont have to mask cockpits / other coloured parts etc, esp as the blackhawk has a few opening or moving doors...

Only have to see Kraken's work to see he knows what he is talking about. Also don't do what I had a tendency to do and rush it. Take your time and undercoat/prime. So far Plastikote spray is the best I have found. Satin is probably the best for the vehicles as matt does'nt look finished and gloss is too shiny.

definately agree regarding satin being teh best finish for me, and also the taking your time bit... i tend to get very impatient and ruin things...

Eddie I hand painted mine with no undercoat first of all to see if it matched a Dragonfly's shade of green, is the Cobra gunship light or dark blue? If it is light spray paint it if not then hand paint it blue.

thanks guys for the advice, time is something i have in abundence i've still got another fortnight off work so that's good. Ironblood was it the WP quad bike you wanted?

The Military Buggy eddie I can get more quads quite readily thanks!

Yep, in essence:

01) Dismantle completely. Carefully remove stickers (I put them onto an A4 label backing sheet and press them under heavy books)
02) Cover EVERYTHING in newspaper / plastic sheeting, make sure the area is well ventilated.
03) Lay out all the pieces.
04) Spray them all white.
05) Leave for several hours. Do not be tempted to "see if they are dry yet" - they are not, and you just ruined a piece.
06) Turn them all over, go slow if they have stuck to the newspaper.
07) Spray the other side, repeat step 5
08) Arrange them by colour plan; spray all of the blue bits in one area, all of the black together elsewhere etc etc. Repeat steps 5, 6 & 7
09) Spray everything with lacquer. Repeat steps 5, 6 & 7
10) Reassemble. Bear in mind it will never be as durable as a toy, any hard knocks will remove paint.

I find the whole process extremely rewarding. Have fun!

i should be going over to the toy shop either tomorrow or monday to get some paints and what not so i'll see what they have available.

thats about answered any question i could possibly have, i will spray and leave overnight before doing anything else, thanks everyone.
