Oh good. As the can of worms is now open again, I did send Jimbo an e-mail about the Custom of the Month thread.

Here is his reply:

How are you? Email’s still active, but I’ve not been on the BFTB website for ages. Work, family and my other interests (sacrilege!!) taking all my time at the moment. I really appreciate you emailing me regarding the competition, but I don’t want to submit any of my work. I did it for myself to expand my Z Force Army (then kept going) and wanted to share the photos with the little core of Action Force fans we had, but I don’t want it compared, critiqued or voted on; the many supporting comments I’ve had on the forum are prize enough for me.

Glad to see the site is still going so strong. I will try and get back on and trawl through, what I imagine, are a great deal of posts I haven’t seen yet.

All the best,

Jimbo

I know what you mean, Ironblood (and knowing is half the customizing). I feel similar with my Dio-stories. I don't know if people likes them til they comment, since they are about Joe stuff (and sometimes AM stuff). In fact, "Street... desert?" didn't recieve any comment.

About the customs themselves, it doesn't matter if you use a cardboard tube to make a :muton: ; what matters is the tube looking as a :muton: and looking well among the figure range, and those customs have managed it (even the Tiger Claw one is good, and I'm not very fond of Tiger Claw; I find him the poor man's Kamakura).
:cobracommander: "You were engineered with such potential, Serpentor. But you lack the most important DNA of all... mine."

i'm going to be honest here, i'm still fairly new to the whole collecting game i have amassed a large collection of toys in a short space of time. but it's for me it makes me happy some what selfishly, seeing all the customs and what you guys create is fantastic i'm going to have a crack at it soon as i can see how much you enjoy doing it and it makes you proud of your own achievements and rightly so, its also only right that you share your pics and take some pats on the back as it makes you feel good, but more importantly it's for your own satisfaction so have your collection on display for you irrespective of what others think if it makes you happy then you shouldn't give a f*ck.
CIA got you pushing to many pencils.

To be honest I don't know much about the character DA I didn't like that Kamakura so I got a better poseable one and repainted my older one and he didn't look like anyone else apart from TigerClaw who I noted before was made from Kamakura parts.

You are right I shouldn't give a f*ck eddie I was feeling down after work yesterday and I'm still not sure what to do about it. I do my customs for my own pleasure but have found what I do usually gets more bad comments than good and it gets me down and makes me wonder why I bother but that is just me I hope no one will hold that against me.
Spock, where the hell's the power you promised?

What's ment to be an off the cuff remark can often be read as something compleatly different on the screen..it often depends on what mood or context you're in when you read it, I often have the same problem with texting, taking a harmless remark as something it isn't
As you may know, when the idea of a custom of the month comp' was muted I was worried something like this may happen..when any form competitive element is introduced to something like this, I always have a fear that it can take the pleasure out of things for people.
I still feel that the customs section sould be a forum for people to share ideas & show thier hard work to others in an friendly environment, not a place for one-up-manship..but this is just my own personal opinion, others can & are welcome to disagree.

The thing is, if someone doesn't like a piece, they are more likely to just say nothing rather than criticise. I too was reluctant for a top-ten poll which is why I pushed for the custom of the month to be goverend by submissions only.

I do try to be tactful in my "Maybe a little change here or there" comments, but I understand that when you are showing off your baby all you really want is for people to go "ooh" and "ahh".

What needs to be emphasised is that the competition isn't for the Best custom, but for the Favourite custom, if you know what I mean.

Yep, when I studied @ college it took me a while to get used to positive criticism of my work..personally if I do have a comment about others nowadays I try to be as balanced & tactfull as possible, when in my youth I'd of said something much less diplomatic & would probably of them coursed offense.

Yeah, TKW, please run a poll of your least favourite customs and we'll decide which one is the worst.

Maybe I could join up with another "assumed" name & just let rip with less tactfull & more offensive comments?
Only joking, but is they be any thing to stop something like that happening ?
