New Dream Theater album 22nd June
Heads up Baron, I'm guessing you already know Dream Theater release their new album on 22nd June called "Black Clouds and Silver Linings", however did you know the current issue of Classic Rock presents PROG has one of the new tracks on the included CD?
Song's called Rite of Passage and it's very good, played it quite a few times this weekend (when i got the chance).
Think they're doing 3 live shows in the UK this summer

Fine choice, Chop! There are some excellent chillout sequences on the new one.

LOL I should've known you'd be way ahead of me Baron!
Not posted on here for yonks, so forgotten about the Starfleet/Dream Theater thread d'oh!
I'd love to go and see them especially as Frost are the support act and I love their Milliontown album (haven't checked out the 2nd album yet).
Sadly my personal circumstances mean I can't really go (same personal problems have been why I haven't posted here in so long).
I have now got the Liquid Tension albums and you're right Baron they are the dogs b*ll*cks!
Chopper - I'm a fan of Porcupine Tree too, Deadwing is my favourite. And I'm quite fond of Spock's Beard too. I grew up weened on 70s prog and heavy rock (thanks to my Auntie Shirley) and so I love the likes of King Crimson, Yes, Led Zep, Tull, Sabath, Van der Graaf et al.
In recent years I've started getting into some of the more recent prog bands, I always ummed and ahhed over Dream Theater but the Baron spoke so highly of them that I dipped my toe and never looked back.
Liquid Tension Experiment is amazing, i wish i could have them jam like that in our living room

Re: New Dream Theater album 22nd June
I'm a Floyd fan, have been since before I was born thanks to my Dad. I discovered Led Zep last year, Dad was more into Alan Parsons, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac that kinda thing (which I love too) but never really hooked into Zep till now. I've been learning a few Zep numbers but the timing on a lot of it is killer, Floyd is natural to me as I'm more of a blues player than a rock player. I think a lot stems from your influences, I can pick up a guitar and figure a key then bang into a Gilmour type riff, but Page is not near the same. btw that "Count of Tuscany pt 1' is based around an E major chord by the sounds of it, Baron. Easy, yet sweet
My favourite tune from the last ten years of prog rock has to be "Lazarus" by porcupine Tree, simple but melodically brilliant.
Another favourite of mine is "Blind Melon". So underrated, then the singer died and that was that, now they have reformed. I'm a huge Funk fan. A bit of RHCP too.
Bugger me dead, Lazarus is awesome. Oh man, Halo, too.
