Blood for the Baron!

hi, currently coloring an awesome issue of action force, & really enjoying myself! i remember this so vividly & it's from 24 years ago (im so old!)
anyways, was wondering if anyone else is working on (or previously has) one & wants to share some tips? this is one of the coolest things ive had the chance to do, im a big spiderman fan but he pales in comparison to action force! still is my all time number one comic!
cant wait for the site to be back up proper & start reading more!

I know when I first started coloring I tried to use the flood tool as much as possible, it wasnt long before I learned NOT to EVER EVER EVERY use the flood tool, even though it might save me time I found out the hard way it looks like crap when its blown up or in print LOL. So I had to go back and redo all those areas that I used the flood tool on. So for anyone starting out I would say DONT BE TEMPTED by the flood tool LOL

Agreed with the flood tool. Tho in the case of the Datafiles its a very necessary evil. I'm a newbie but one thing I'll say, just because a filter is named something doesn't always mean that's all you can use it for Experimentation is the name of the game.

Really looking forward to seeing everyone's work.

lol, yeah i already know flooding is one to avoid for this kinda work!
ive found the best way is to re-lay the black back on top once youve finished a page, keeps all the lines fresh!

Are you guys using the brush tool on darken for your colouring in? You need to use the levels manually to make the image as B+W as possible, then use the brush tool on darken to colour the whites leaving black untouched. It's very quick and very easy.

Here's what I mean...

1. Original

2. Enhanced levels (only marginal difference here as the scan quality and post production top notch)

3. Colouring in with darken

4. Burn tool on shaded areas

5. Dodge tool on highlight areas

dodge tool......? i dont know that one, what does it do?! (im totally self taught on photoshop)
im kinda going for a more vintage look, kinda how i think they would have looked if they were color back then (i remember old war comics)
i wanna do one by hand, but i just went with my trusty mac for this one!

ya Im self taught too !! whats the burn tool and dodge tool and where do I find it on Photoshop?

stick with the mac and photoshop! your doing awesome !
