SteveD's "Command Centre" Room

I've seriously underestimated the number of figure stands I need, so have had to order some more for the good old Z Force boys and Series 1 (underestimated by 80! I got 150 already and I wasn't even close!). Also currently awaiting stands for the Series 3, and to sort something for the Battle of the Planets and Star Wars section, so thought I'd stick a few work in progress pics on of the "Geek Room", as I know the suspense is driving Paul crazy ;)

Pics with camera phone, due to other camera being FUBAR, so not the best quality, and pretty hard to take without my ugly mug in the shots due to mirrored backs in the cabinets. I'll put some proper ones up once I get finished, and possibly a new camera too, or find where our lass hides hers!

Trying not to overstock them, the whole "less is more" philosophy, so some vehicles are being left out and may be traded - three and a half of these cabinets in total, but only two filled so far:

Z Force armies must be off at battle somewhere.

The Baron's boys - pride of place in the middle cabinet:-

And the Carded Corner - need some more acrylic cases yet, as some are hiding at the back in StarCases, but it will be a while before we get them:-

Scared myself a bit with how many cardeds I have - those shelves are five deep, giving 20 figs per shelf. Going to be adopting the (Patented) Paul Rotation Sytem for future displays, but at minute no real order. "In the Beginning there was Chaos".

See now why I'm after smaller boxed vehicles? Fit perfectly into the little bit of shelf left at the top. Bigger boxed vehicles have found a home on top of shelves & cabinets too.

Anyway, just thought I'd share a few WIP pictures.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed through sales or trades, and especially to Flint for his great help in completing the Flash Gordon range, and Steve "The Kraken" at UK Graders - those deeper sliding back cases are perfect for the BSG and Terrahawks items, and the deeper bubbled Black Hole figures too - looking forward to getting some custom cases for the larger cardeds, as they are currently hiding down there at the bottom, near the Best of Books, MOTU Whiplash, and the old BAF's (which make the room smell like a comic book store!)

I'll stop now, before I go all Kate Winslett on you all.

Cheers!
SteveD

Christ, I've seen toy stores with considerably less. Sweet collection Steve.

Thanks guys!

Really enjoying taking my time sorting everything out so far - feels so good after years of collecting it to finally start to see it out and on display.

Many moons ago Aire posted a message about how long it takes to set everything up for photos. I now know what she meant, and my collection is tiny compared to hers.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn that is sweet!!!!

Fantastic pictures!! The mirrored backs work really well making squads look like legions!!!

The corner pic thought with the carded and boxed is smply the best though, and I thought looked just like a toy shop from back in the day!!!

Fantastic work Steve, well done, now hurry up and pack it all away, the room is needed

Unfortunately, as an adult, such restraint as that had left me, and it therefore became "i'll have two of those.....and three of those (as they are each slightly different) and one each of those......honest - I'll sell my old ones on........"

I love the shelves most too - when i get it sorted and start with the rotation system I will do a shot with the whole corner with AF at the front. Then it will truly be Toymaster circa 1985.

Well if any need a loving home i'm willing to offer my assistance in helping to find one.

Out of curiosity how many carded action force (series 2 ) do you have. I've noted that i'm at a stage where i have duplicates of most of the carded figures in varying condition. Just "scout" left from that point of view.

However with the boxed vehicles really only have a handful as they don't tend to appear that often or when they do it is in a glut so you can't possibly afford all of them. Or at the moment a number of people (myself included) are pushing up the prices to levels they probably don't deserve or maybe we're just catching up with the Americans, i'm not sure. Do you think it is a physical possibility to have a complete boxed collection?

Not entirely sure - I will have to count up tonight and post the answer to that one. I do have a full set (of series 2 that is) with at least one of each, and it is only variants that escape me now (I fear I'm sounding like a broken record, but Black Gloves Baron MOC anyone?, Coloured leg pockets Space guys?). And for lots of them I have several versions, such as different mail away offers on the back etc. I stopped going for "two of each" after a while though.

A "full" set of sealed in boxed's would cost a fortune these days in my humble opinion. I got most of mine a number of years ago (no crying Kraken) and even then I was paying about £20 to £30 each for the likes of the Shadowtrak, Swordfish etc. Three of those boxes are empty (Wolverine, Red Jackal and Triad with Moondancer) as the contents had already been taken out and used, and then put back in, so they were more "really good condition loose with a box", than MIB and as such I just display the boxes and the items are in with the loose. All others are still with the contents sealed in bags etc though.

Long answer (as always!) to a short question - but I'd say not "impossible", but you need a lot of time, a lot of patience, and an awful lot of money!

Oh, and for the more observant amongst you - just below Rotte Schatten and above the Flash Gordon Beastman is "Mechanique Gallactique" - won by me in the Blood for the Baron 25th Annoversary sweepstakes.

It has pride of place at the front of the Space Force row.
