had a problem a few weeks back when I installed new printer drivers, they basically clashed with Norton (got that problem solved and Norton gave me the 2009 for free)

The problem is that when I was ballsing about trying to sort it I did something to the boot sequence. When the PC boots up it now looks for the floppy drive which I don't have. I get the message Floppy diskette failure press F1 to continue. Once I do that everthing goes as normal. Anyone know how I can sort this.

The moral of the story is don't piss about with things you don't know too much about.

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

you need to go in to the bios and change the boot sequence

should be a message on the boot screen telling you what to press to go into bios


then navigate to the boot sequence part
all depends on the bios chip you have so i couldnt say exactly how to do it

try pressing f1 or escape continuesly after starting pc up

It's more likely the Del key, but I've seen F2 used as well. My latest board has a sidestep - F8 which goes direct to boot drive sequence.

It's easily fixed. Are you using Windows?

People are getting lazy these days. Asking this to google would have saved your 'problem' instantly! But hey, here we go!

It depends on the motherboard and type of bios, but nine out of ten times when booting a PC you will see this message: PRESS DEL TO ENTER SETUP

• Press del, you will enter bios. This looks as if you are running a dos machine!
• Go to boot sequence, use arrows to navigate there, enter to confirm
• Disable floppy or put device last in sequence. Select with enter, then most of the time you can change the value with PAGE-UP and PAGE-DOWN
• Exit bios, save settings on exit -> YES

If that doesn't work:

• Unplug computer
• Open nearest window
• Lift computer
• Walk to window
• Scream: "Fire in the hole!"
• Throw computer out of window
• Enjoy the mystical powers of gravity!
• Find the nearest Dixons

Tip: discard any Norton security product! It slows down PC's dramatically and is not very compatible with other software. There are tons of other products for free that do the same and are lighter on your system.

I get scared by BIOS and DOS these days. Conjurs up too many memories of :
10 PRINT "Steve is Cool"
20 GOTO 10

(or whatever it is I used to consider programming as a kid),

Having said that, I did have a similar problem with my Laptop a while ago when restoring it to factory settings and it was fixed in exactly the way Jaye describes (was there ever really any doubt?)

Last time my laptop went wrong I ended up squirting WD40 in the power socket and various other orifices. Funnily enough that didn't fix it, which came as a surprise as WD40 is my solution to everything.

If it moves when it shouldn't: Gaffer Tape.
If it doesn't move when it should: WD40.

I'm going to get a plaque made for the shed bearing those sagely words of wisdom.

Gaffer tape should also be put into every first aid kit going - it holds plasters in place that would otherwise fall off, can be used to stick together a larger wound until you can get a few stitches in it, can form a simple splint for broken fingers (with a lolly stick), can even be tightly wound around a limb to form a temporary torniqu, erm, a tornicat, er, a tight seal, to prevent blood loss.

Magical stuff.
