RIP Woolworths.

Anyone else bothered by this? I've been going to our local Woolies literally all my life (my Mum took me in a pram) and it was the most interesting store in our little shopping centre. I have plenty of memories, including being told to leave once because I was an unaccompanied child (and a potential shoplifter!) - Imagine them doing that these days!

Now it's all but gone, all we'll have in New Ferry will be betting shops, discount stores and pubs.
Add to that, I was counting on Woolies being my primary source for Movie Joe figures. I'm really going to miss that place...:(

Most of my star wars, action force and lego came from woolies !

we live in a small coastal town in cumbria, so woolworths is our only outlet for toys, cds and dvds etc....

all we have left now is Morrisons and wh smiths, nearest toy shop now is about 20 miles !

very poor.....

Im sad about it for the memories from my childhood as it was the only place in my home town I could get af figures from unless we went on a shopping trip to DOncaster or Lincoln.

Recently bought an IJ cemetery warrior figure in the sale and wanted prices to come down more as they have a hulk two figure pack in there I want for customs... Bit harsh I know, I feel sorry for everyone losing their jobs but I wont miss the modern Woolies...

The sale in our woolies at the minute is a bit rubbish.

it says up to 50% off but when you get inside most things are only 10 or 20% reduced.

again...... very poor !

Yeah, except for toys and cds / dvds our Woolies is just full of plastic boxes of rubbish...

I didnt mind paying #3 for the IJ figure but dont want to pay 6 quid for a few bits for customs...

Maybe this is the time they will dig the old stock from the back out which has been left there since the 80's.
I am sure someone will find something in a woolies a storeroom which has not been disturbed since the empire was defeated.
My christmas wish is that it is the Burnley store! Failing that Nelson's or blackburn's. :wheels:

Disclaimer! Tintin has been at the Glenfiddich again before watching Burnley beat Southampton and could well be off his trolley before going out and having more copious amounts of beer!

All the Woolworths around me here in the States went out of business about 10 years ago.
It sucked big time...they still had the diner and soda fountains inside the store... :(

Well, they've just announced that all stores will be closed by January 7th. Until now I held out some hope that perhaps a few of the shops may survive in some form...
Another 27,000 to add the the swelling unemployment figures. Guess the bosses will be alright though - They probably have their next directorship lined up already.

It sucks that Woolworths is closing. Spent my whole life in and out of there, everything from first folder for AF bumpf throught to every passport photo and my last ever :AFLogo: purchase, :zforce: Whirlwind when there was a vast joblot alongside the new cobber range. Some of my ancestors even died in Woolworths, vapourised in London during a V2 strike.

Anyone remember Woolco too? They used to have electrics and white goods separate from the main store. Still got some extension kit somwhere with a woolco tag on it - meaning its lasted ever since the winter of discontent. They don't make 'em like they used to.

Ho-fuggin-hum and bah-fuggin-humbug.
