New Ads Format

As you may have noticed, lycos have changed their ad format to a side bar.
On a 1024 width screen it doesnt have much effect, but on an 800 Im afraid it does make the screen area a bt narrow.
But being positive it is much faster than the old style banner, and it doesnt obscure text.
Im holding off implementing the rest of the new deisgn until I find out if this new style ad is staying. If so Ill modify the new style to make the meu boxes narrower to maximise screen width.

Just a test to make sure the PHP still works after I rearranged it to reinstate the title bar!
The only problem Ive noticed is that if you are browsing with a favourites panel open to the left of the window, the screen is too wide, and you will have to scroll all screens.
Solution to this is to close your favourites panel while visiting.
Lots of people on Lycos are unhappy with this new format, so who knows if it will stay

Just had a go using Netscape 6.1, and it seemed Ok.
Are you still having the problem?

The ad bar is inserted using Javascript, so it is possible Netscape behaves slightly differently.
Ive read a few posts on Lycos BB about similar problems. Ill check for any solutions

Of course pop up adverts and banners are now a thing of the past!
I'll add a a few affiliate links (ebay etc) to help cover costs a little, but that is it, and if any offers come up Partnership banners. But they will be restrained and in sensible places!
So Glad I moved it...

Just paid a visit to the old site to make sure the redirection links were all ok.
Not only is the sidebar advert still there, but the rolldown banner is also back......and Lycos have added a pop up window as well.
Three adverts........
....me thinks that is overkill!
