So if this was real (or a more realistic moulding) what would it be?

I never understood why all the other bits of kit where pretty realistic and this looked so pants.

On the pants accessories side just remebered the ammo cases and detonation things, what was the deal with them...

Yeah, those guns did sort of let the side down a bit. They work better with the Red Shadows, but for something like Z-Force they're a bit tacky. The Z-men would be more likely to have 50 caliber machine guns mounted up there.

Why did Palitoy use them? Can't imagine really, except that back then they presumed that, to a kid at least, a 'gun' was a 'gun'. As long as it resembled a basic weapon of some kind, accuracy didn't matter (althought that theory is spoiled by the super realistic guns given to the figures themselves!).

I think the ammo and detonator deal was a direct follow-on from the "mini Action Man" concept. Those guns were originally found on the cardboard base so I suspect that's a similar thing.

I wonder if the plastic itself was cheaper for those ammo and detonator things, or maybe they where incorporated on to another mould and where produced 'for free' as a by-product. I'm sure it must have been cost, "we'll add these bits of tat to make it seem like better value"... the softer plastic items where the only ones I used as a kid, always wanted a 'useable' detonator (no not one that made mini explosions! just one out of the soft plastic).

I guess the fat gun's hinge joint had something to do with it looking the way it does... has anyone customised them to look half way decent?

As a child I found the gun on the jeep rather dissappointing. Why some parts were orange I did not understand either: f*cks up the camouflage of the rest of the vehicle.

I think Barto is spot on when it comes to detonators and ammo cases being a by-product of for instance vehicle parts.

Hello mates new guy here but while a very toylike representation it is close in style to the 30 caliber machine gun of ww2 which would fit as a vehicle mounted gunner's weapon on a jeep or truck (like the shadowtrack) or as a commanders weapon on armor

Come to think of it, it makes sense for the gun to be a fusion of old and new as that's how the Action Force line was when it started: German Stormtrooper alongside a modern SAS soldier...?

Well, the original line was all about Action Man in miniature, so was there an equivalent generic Action Man cannon? Does anyone know?
