Roboskull red wing tip gun - Restoration ideas

Post by OllyOrc »

Has anyone had to restore a sun bleached Roboskull red wing tip gun before? Newswseller had a good idea of a chemical to peel off the top layers but has anyone used such a chemical or process, please.

Middle one is a good red win tip gun compared to the left and right faded ones

Thanks, Racing Red looks the most suitable and vibrant, compared with their Candy Apple red.

Careful with ritdye.
It can really damage the plastic and you arent guaranteed a colour match.
Ive had some really good results but found over time it can melt the plastic.

The lighter colour will penetrate some way down so stripping layers of plastic wouldnt be an option and it look normal , even if you could do it correctly which i doubt. I think painting or leaving it as it is is the best option other than rit dye or ipoly dye since rit cjanged their recipe ( the new stuff doesnt work on plastic without adding acetone to help the dye take) and dyeing plastic anything other than black is filled with issues, even black doesnt work so well.

It was black I had major problems with.
Funny thing is the figure it really melted was a custom of my username. Almost looked like it blistered.
Red was easier to play with but hard to judge colour.

If I was you I'd try and buy replacements and throw them out for customs

Experimented with just a red Sharpie pen, not bad and easy to do. Hoping the slightly dark red, will fade intime for a closer match.

Left is sun faded, middle is an original good one and right side is the Sharpie (incomplete to show difference)
