List of all known AF & Enemy prototypes

Hallo,

Is there a list of all known Palitoy :originalaf: :AFLogo: :enemy: prototypes?

Perhaps prototypes is too broad a term here and can be broken down further: is there a list of all concept art, confirmed prototypes, confirmed test shots/mouldings/test cardbacks or boxes?

Some data does exist, but curious whether it is possible to establish a) timeline for all of the above b) whether protos are protos or test mouldings for test shots c) whether groups of protos as currently held by collectors are actually from a group created at one point in time or are assembled or otherwise clustered by unit or designer(s) over a longer period.

Tschüss,

:quick:

Now this is interesting. My variant/palitoy history gland just stirred.
I have a few bits and pieces (photos, etc.) but mine have all generally been found here.

Much obliged, and yeah, I'd love to tackle this, but it is a huge undertaking.
The big question is, what evidence remains for prototypes, etc, and where is that information.
Mr Tree seems to have access to Palitoy's archive, and he seems to play his cards very close to his chest.
Actually, I've never understood why - if it was me, I'd be screaming from the rooftops! I suppose it's connected to his book about Palitoy's history that is somewhere in the pipeline.

I'm going to do some studying... I feel an XL spreadsheet coming on! (*scurries over to the archive section)

Ah, the dreaded excel sheet(s) - suppose it must be done that way in the interests of rigorous inquiry ...

Not sure that it's going to be that long in comparison to exhaustive variant spreadsheets. By no means exhaustive, and can attempt to write up, but:

1981
:originalaf: :arctic: protos and associated data inc. concept artwork.
:originalaf: various figures on sprues etc. and for test shots.
198?
:baron: concept artwork
198?
:fforce: protos.
1982
Very random :AFLogo: :enemy: Bob Brechin protos (point of origin on a VAM site now lost) - about three or four figures inc. :shadow: officer or similar screaming straight out of Hellboy.
1982/3
:AFLogo: :enemy: - includes: Paulitoy :breaker: protos which links to:
1983
Protos and unreleased figures feature in the catalogue
1983
Larger set of figure protos or test mock ups now in the archive
1983
Sealion proto 1
Sealion proto 2
1983?
:enemy: :space: :zforce: concept artwork
1983
:enemy: Roboskull concept art
1983
QC Green-stickered :AFLogo: :enemy: :originalaf: cardbacks will provide crucial elements of the timeline to situate the above. There was a thread on this - maybe by the seller? Found them via a former Palitoy worker's loft? Now we have timeline for :sas: MMS and another figure in the archive.
System was still in place in 1985 as a green stickered :snowjob: is in the archive, obviously not the legendary design team signing off on the products by then...
Late 83
Green-stickered :scout: cardback with protos (archive), there are some other :scout: and maybe :doc: protos - but are they just mock ups for test shots?
Late 83
:skeletron: + Roboskull protos, plus associated :wolf: and :skeletron: concept artwork (sometime after :skeletron: was stood down as the :enemy: Roboskull pilot.)
Late 83
:zforce: ATV concept artwork
Early 84
:zforce: ATV concept artwork 2 just before Palitoy design team discontinued.

Somewhere in spring 1984 some wave 3 :space: figures and a :space: transporter need to be added in.

:quick:

PS. All of this - and much more - must be in Bob's draft book too!

LMAO.
Bugger, I thought we'd deleted those pms... Herr Quickfire, I demand to know how you got into my personal messages inbox
(Tshot, leggit! They're onto us. This must have been how it felt when poor Oscar was on trial...)

The stuff I have been doing with variants (you'd better all be paying attention, there will be a test afterwards) touches upon this.
Using this information, we can build up an outline of relative chronology for the variants.

More to follow soon.
Stirling work, Herr Quickfire, you are really going for it.
