I decided to restore this old beast to Military condition. Its a 1942 GRI SMLE with a 1958 Lithgow "H" snipers barrel. Should come up good once I can score the rest of the parts I need. Quite excited to get it back to how it was.

Absolutely beautiful. I can almost smell the oil and wood. Very jealous.

My hands smell of linseed and gun oil atm. It does smell pretty good. Just add burnt gun powder to the mix and we have an awesome cologne.

This one would have seen service, Hopper. Right up your alley, I guess.

After the war 1000's of these firearms were imported to NZ and sporterised for Deer culling or hunting. The butt that was on it is a Parker Hale sporting butt. It wasn't pretty, but it is effective, accurate and lite. I plan to get a No4 for hunting at some point as well.

Sweet.

I do envy you folks who are able to legally own such historical weapons as these in fully working order.

Pretty sure they are easy to get licensed for in Pomgolia, Ed. You should see the stuff they can buy in NZ, Aussie is rather restrictive by comparison, even to the UK.

Splendid.

Yeah, you could get this stuff in the UK but you usually need to live in the countryside and have a reason to own it in a non-deactivated state for legitimate hunting purposes (more general vermin control wouldn't necessarily work) and then let a freemason examine your fundament for signs of deviation from Harry Potter capitalism or Harry Potter socialism before a license is granted. Probably need to go through an interview these days with some infant who has a GNVQ in general relativity too. After all, it is a society that requires 'do not drink bleach' signs in the workplace so probably some caution is required.

You would have loved where I was today mate, Commonwealth Games shooting comp. Ozzies were doing well in the rapid fire pistol and a Kiwi girl was doing really well in clay pigeon.

Speaking of the Commonwealth Games, did anybody watch the opening ceremony ?
I caught about 5 minutes of it... camp as a row of tents!
Giant cans of Irn Bru & Tunnocks Tea Cakes dancing as Tourchwood's Cpt Jack belted out I'll Take The High Road...

I was over it before the kickoff. Big waste of tax money IMHO. Nice to see Aussie shooters doing OK as a lot of the firearms for comps are illegal or restricted in Aussie. Even Harry Potter is liberal by comparison. Yup, Kiwi gold, I see. Aussies win too. That'll piss the greenies and pinko's off. ;-)
