Snibston Discovery Museum Petition

Those who read my posts about my own and Bob Brechin / Brian Turner's Action Force displays, will know that these are at Snibston Discovery Museum, in Coalville; of course the former home of the mighty Palitoy.

There has off and on been uncertainty about the future of the museum, throughout its 21 year life, following the closure of the colliery site it is based on. The debate has really been heating up this week, following a petition launched by the Friends of Snibston group. There have been numerous reports and activity in the media (TV, Radio and press) throughout this week, as well as on social media sites.

The current Conservative Leader of the Council has never been a fan of Snisbton and is pushing for a decision on the site's future before Christmas. His ideal is to sell the main site for housing, retaining only the historic colliery buildings as a volunteer maned attraction (as these are a Scheduled Ancient Monument and the Council has an obligation to maintain them).

The Friends of Snibston have opened an on-line petition on the County Council's website (link below) and also have over 2,000 written signatures to date. Clearly the aim is to maximise the level of public support for Snibston. If anyone would like to add their support, please sign the ePetition.

Please pass the link on if you would like.
