Well it's that time of year again, January sees the luanch of another partwork magazine, this time it's Batman Automobilia: The definitave collection of Batman vehicles.

The first issue comes with this great 1:43 scale model of the Michael Keaton Batmobile for only £2.99:

I picked up a copy @ lunch time, but @ £9.99 for future issues & god knows how many parts to collect I don't think it's worth subscribing too...especially when you see how cheaply you can pick up the various versions of Batmobiles @ toy fairs.

The 60's TV show version is in issue 2 so I think I'll wait for that even if it costs £5.99. I love both cars but I only want one!

Yep, i think I'll be buying issue two simply because, when I hear Batmobile it's the Batmobile I immediately think of , besides, I'd say £5.99's a fair price for a decent 1:43 scale model these days.

To be honest a lot of these sort of magazine models turn up, sooner or later, for sale at toy fairs for bargain prices..usally priced @ no more than a couple of quid each, you really can build up a nice collection for next to nothing.

. . . as a collector, I got sucked into the James Bond Car Collection, which started in January 2007 and has just concluded with issue 134. Some of these actually (currently) sell very well on eBay and personally, although I now have the complete set, am considering parting with quite a few simply because they're not iconic enough to the franchise. Collectors and money will always be parted!

That's the trouble really you have a lot of models that you probably just don't want or are so obscure even the real hard core Bond fans would be hard pushed to tell which movie they came from...did you go for that build your own scale model of Bond's Aston Martin?

One of our regular customers recently completed the Lancaster Bomber partwork model (he'd brought in photo's of it's progress from time to time to show us) which he's very proud to have finished & it's an impressive looking, not to mention large, beast...but you've got to wonder just how much the things cost him over the years?

Based on my experience with the James Bond Cars Collection, I decided against the build your own Aston. I know someone who did buy one, but he said it wasn't that well put together. It was amazingly heavy when I picked it up. As always though, the DB5 looks nice in whatever scale it is produced.

Shame, would've bought it just for the case and given the cars to my wee lad.

I think I'll get this first issue. The Burton Batmobile is my favourite.
