Figure Mould and Paint Variations

(Lost thread recreation)

Here are two examples of production variations of the same character.

The plastic on the "new" versions is less rubbery and limbs break off easier than on the "old" version.

:shadow: Red Shadows

What I consider the "new" version is on the left.
It has become known as the "Dufus" shadow due to the less threatening eye slits.

Note the thicker soles, less clawlike hands and shorter head.
The head is also more symmetrical than the "old" version on the right.
Also the eagle on the new version is just painted on, not moulded.
Webbing straps on "old" version not fully painted.

"new" version on right this time.

Note longer visor on cap and difference in hand and belt moulding.
Camo paint mask is more sparsely applied and sharper edged, shoulder :zforce: logos also more defined than on "old" version.

Hi,
I only just spotted this myself, so apologies if it's a well known variation..

:skyraider: has two different left arm varients:

One apeers to be the same moulding as :major: / :cmmdr: , with splayed out fingers, the other is from :deepsea: / :muton: which features the fingers closer together & ( what I can best describe as) a wrist watch:

Sorry, Mr D...that's another figure varient for you too add to your M.O.C collection now

It's not as noticeable but the fold/creases of the sleaves are also slightly diferent between the two versions.

I wonder if :hotjets: has the same variations?
I've checked both of mine (orange & blue booted versions) but each have a 'wrist watch'.

P.S have we done the :barracuda: leg/feet moulding varients yet?

We have done the feet variations chat, yeah, but it's lost somewhere, so worth a repeat I'd say! I'll have a look at my little Space army tonight to see if they are all watched, or watchless!

I fear that tiny variation will be nigh on impossible to spot MOC on eBay photos! But I will keep my eye out!

All of mine appear to have the wristwatch - Captain and Pilots, suggesting the non-wristwatch one is the unusual one?? It looks like an Infantrymans arm to me???

I believe that the splayed fingers 'wristwatch' arm is the re-released 1984 version, a remould along the same lines as the gripping thumb on the crooked 'gun' arm. The 'wristwatch' itself looks like spru to me.
