Hi, I am aqquired one of those chop“s and want to turn it into a cool Cobra Transport but I would like some advice on how to paint this, do I need to sand it a bit for the primer to hold on, any cool suggestions for a paint scheme (maybe use the FANG colors or go Rattler blue?). I remember seeing a custom featuring this vehicle with a jeep inside but does it need to be cut to fit the wheels?

Primer should stick fine on its own, esp on these as the plastic surface isnt super shiny.

I think rattler blue as it would match the transports from the comics but black would be much easier as a match for the blue might be difficult.

From a modelmaking point of view, If you want it to stick like sh*t to a shovel, strip the whole thing down and wash it in "Jif" or "Cif" as it's called now. Use Games Workshop Chaos black primer as it's intended for use on Plastics and will provide a great base coat for a darker top coat (I reckon Rattler Blue).

Ok, thanks guys :)

I am leaning towards the blue as well because that is what I have seen in the comics like you mention TKW but since I am about to have 4 of them I could make one mat-black for the Baroness and her Night Stalkers ;)

Is it the same one I used for my SAS custom? I managed to house a Panther (Vamp) and MMS snugly without mods.

And definitely ASP blue, black would be plain. A spray-on lacquer is a good idea too. I'd recommend spray paints over enamels any day.

If you do a black one mate I'd recommend Army painters black primer. I used it on my and the finish is great as is so no need for further coats. I even dropped it on a some concrete at one point and it did'nt do any damage to the paint.

Oh yes they do mate. The founders of Army painters are Danish. Here's a link to their site and stores in Denmark.

I was thinking it might be worth contacting the founders and letting them know that their products are used for customs on here as well as wargaming.

On this, the primer you should use is tamiya white primer. I've had some difficulties with one of these chinooks, because the paint would not stick over the painted camo on the fuselage. The tamiya primer is expensive, but by far the best primer out there. Also, tamiya's blue is a very good cobra blue

another option, a friend of mine did these dio-stories(really good to), here's a page that you get a glimpse of some of his cobra watchtowers, he used testors arctic metallic blue. It's a really nice color, just slightly mettallic. I bought one off of him if you want to see pictures of it.
