the other day proved interesting as you are probably aware i'm looking for a shop counter display unit so whilst perusing the web looking at shopfitter sites i stumbled across what i thought would be perfect, height depth and width excellent but as it would arrive fully assembled i figured i would ring the customer service number and ask the height between each shelf to be certain the cases would fit, the following is my phone conversation with the oh so helpful girl.

me; Hi i'm interested in the A6 counter you have with the 40% price reduction.

girl; good morning sir, the A6 yes. may i ask what business your calling from?

me; i'm not a business, i'm a private buyer.

girl; ok, so you would like to buy the A6 for your business.

me; i'm not a business, i'm a private buyer. you see i'm a collector and i need a display cabinet for my collection so i want to know the height between the shelves so i can decide whether i want it or not.

girl; but i don't know the measurements.

me; neither do i hence the call.

girl; if you tell me the business your from we can email you the information.

me; i'm NOT a business i'm a nerd!!

phone dies.....(i sit back confused and utter the word bitch)

i may just email from now on.

Was she Indian?

no english, just a bit thick i reckon.

tell me about it.in my job i sometimes have to awnser the phones and the first thing i say is "good morning /good afternoon,this is [company name ] switchboard,how may i help you" and the caller then goes on to tell me this,that or the other and so on and so forth when its not the company i work for that they are looking for in the first place......idiots

trust me when i say i have no ideas.

You'd not believe what our receptionist have to put up with. It's like when folks ring a law firm they are so psyched ready to spew forth information that as soon as the girls pick up the phone the people rattle off at 100 mph. I've seen it be a few minutes before they get chance to say "I'll put you through to someone in that department who can help....".

I bet they say that as a private customer you can't get the 40% reduction in cost next!
