Leningrad integrate a lot of Russian riffs and folk-songs into their music, it's kind of touching in a way that Russian metal aspires to but never reaches. The lyrics are literally sort of like Madness crossed with the Kinks via a discursive Kirsty McColl and Shane McGowan drinking session.
To fully appreciate them you need to know a lot of mat, as in two or three years living in a big Russian city's worth, mat is like its own dialect (think 80 words for snow instead of **** or ****** or *+@& etc.)
thats why i love these guys so much! im a big fan of a lot of eastern european folk / neo-folk + all the new metal/ska stuff.
some awesome bands around, RotFront, VV, Distemper, Spitfire, Leprikonsi (the track "chicks dont fall in love with me" is awesome!), Markscheider Kunst to name but a few & i fuckin love Leonid Soybelman!
Ive got a shnur solo album that is great, more stripped down & traditional.
originally got into this stuff thru early gogol bordello (i liked their early stuff)
if you have any of this stuff let me know mate!
huge HUGE fan of these guys:

Yeah it's all good be it techno or rock or whatever! Gogol Bordello are pretty special, Eugune Hytz also starred in the movie version of 'Everything is Connected'
The only unacceptable East European muzak is South East European Serbian Turbofolk. I don't like Serbs. Or Kosovans.
That's enough of my prejudices for one day!
Apart from Nikolai Gogol. He was a great man. He went insane, but that's the price of genius.

I'm listening to the loud music & drunken chatter from the 3 different BBQ parties my neighbors are all having @ the same time, as I type this.

My passion is film scores and I'm currently working on a collection of my favourite Sci-Fi tracks. Have reached the score to 1998's Lost In Space. Earlier in the week I was re-living childhood delights with music from Battle Of The Planets.

That sounds really cool,R.B, some of the music from Ulysses 31 was great too
I cant find the exact piece of music but I loved that sort of big thumping 'march' they played when things started looking bleak for the hero.

Those French cartoons often had quite good music and Ulysses was slightly more adult in its approach I suppose. I'm going to have to listen to my friends Ulysses CD at some point now. I'm hoping he's bought me Star Fleet for Christmas . . . was listening to that at his recently and it was really good.
