I felt the last few years of the 1st Gen' where just too much for me I'm afraid, Pretenders, Micro-masters..I'd lost interest about 1/2 way into series 3, as the toys got too "plastickly"..I mean the robots stopped looking like real cars & started to be fantasy sci-fi vehicles, made out of 100% plastic, dropping things like die-cast metal parts & rubber tires.

Well, the sci-Fi guys (Blurr, Chromedome, etc) didn't look so bad. The thing I find bad was that so many charas were forgotten because of the new ones (the main reason for the deaths in the Movie and the comics' Underbase saga)

DAMartin wrote:Baron, remember that most Tfs from the first 2 years were reused figures from pre-existing toylines (Jetfire was a Valkyrie/Veritech), and nobody had thought then that the combined construction vehicles would need opposition.
I know I said there wasn't one, but I remembered this:

Mega-Dinobot's upper half is the idol of millions, Grimlock:

The lower half is Swoop:

Cool!
Bit of a design flaw with Swoop's beak though...

They look good but Dinobots as combiners I have to say no way there are far too many already plus the Dinobots don't need to combine to be stronger they already are strong as individuals.

I agree, Ironblood, but we need to keep the Baron happy or he will kill us all. Now he knows there's an official Dinobot gestalt (and knowing is half than meets the eye).

Grimlock always hated readers suggesting the Dinobots should combine after the Predacons appeared...
so, T-Shot, you're GEE-WUN are you?
i bet you say 'Trukk not Munky!' too!

in a nutshell, at this point Hasbro went from being a leader to a follower. Micro Machines were hot, so they made Micro Masters. Action Figures were hot, so they made action figure transformers that... did not transform.
The line diversified so far, that it was running out of fresh ideas.

I love the early G-1 toy's, never really liked a lot of the later G-1's, sure a lot of them made great character's in the comic, but as toys, I just never went for 'em.
I've never really had much of an opinion on the "Truck not Monkey" thing to be honest..just not my era of collecting or interest I'm afriad.I suppose Robot's turning into animals does seem a little strange to, but then the Dinobots did it so why not an whole toyline?
