I am really going to have to sit down and re-watch tall the eps. I must confess to thinking that Alternate Spock handled the situation in a very Spock like manner. There were also the references to Kolinahr, purging emotion. Which Spock attempted in TMP, till Vger called to him. Maybe that would never have happened if was 100% Vulcan. Oops I just showed my nerdy side :.

The thing that annoys me most about the alternate timeline is the whole paradox and causality thing. Now they will have to save the Whales and sort out Vger all over again. Altho Spock is aware of these little problems and can intervene, which goes against the grain of the whole time travel thing. BUT what MAY happen is the alternate universe could cease to exist. Oh dear, I can feel a quote coming on.

"Doc: I foresee two possibilities. One - coming face-to-face with herself thirty years older could put her into shock and she could simply pass out. Or two - the encounter could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the entire universe. Granted, that's the worse case scenario. The destruction might, in fact, be very localised, limited to merely our own galaxy."

Ermmmm, well, I thought it was a good film!

Actually, that just reminded me of a bit from a film or tv show that I can't remember at the mo, where they said to "not dwell on it too much" as to the effects of time travel and the space time continuum and to just enjoy it and then the lead actor looked straight to camera and said something like "Okay?". I know that's a crap explanation, but it's bugging me now as to what it is!!

I fully agree with SteveD: sit back, relax and don't over-analyze. It's a science fiction movie, not a science fact documentary! :)

I did. this is all reflective ;) But I have read too much just to ignore it. Its like watching a war film where soldiers with Uzi's never reload or where WWII snipers scopes don't fog up in the rain. I know its BS and have trouble ignoring it. Previously the Boffin's at paramount spent a lot of time getting there facts at least a little bit right, in this its like physics had been completely ignored. Also the whole time travel thing/alternate time line is in serious danger of being over used as an excuse for a poor story. Wow, that was probably a bit harsh, but truthful. I still think it was a good film, but it just didn't sit right as Trek. If you can get past all that I still think the plot was a little weak and the camera work diabolical.

That being said, as a film 7/10 as a Trek film 5/10. I DID enjoy it, just could have been better ;)

Chopper, the wole point of it being an altered timeline is that everything's different and it may not happen the same way.

The scene in The Spy Who Shagged Me has Austin preparing to go back in time and talking to Basil about how there's going to be two of him in 1969, him and his 1969-self in cryo-stasis. 'and i've gone all cross-eyed'. Basil then says it's best not to dwell on it and then looks at the camera and says something like 'and neither should you'.

The wole point, Sundance?

Having had 24 hours to reflect, I have to say that while this is a great film, it isn't Star Trek. Bear in mind I am of the Next Gen / DS9 / Voyager era fandom, and to see that whole universe erased is a bitter pill to swallow. My mate had a problem with the entire bridge crew being aged 17. Yes, they were cadets rush-called to duty I know, but nonetheless it was breaking into 90210 territory. So, I would say this is a fantastic flick, and worth seeing on the big screen for the spectacugobular FX, but it firmly belongs on the same shelf as Galaxy Quest.

sadly the movie will never live up to your expectations, i personally have fond memories of watching the original series when shown on a sunday midday after time tunnel i've always prefered that too the next generation and what followed, having the team updated with a movie full of outlandish effects kind of takes away what i always loved about star trek.

Captain Robau is badass though. The Neutral Zone's not there to keep the Romulans in, it's to keep Robau OUT. Robau's tears can cure Borg assimilation. Too bad he's never cried. Nero may have struck Robau down, but Robau became more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
