Ok, let's say Dinobots, Constructicons and Insecticons could be allowed, because they were subgroups (beasts were more undefined, the giant combined robot was better as a baddie). I could also forgive Jetfire because he had the "ex-Decepticon" background, thus giving an explanation to his jet altmode. I also could forgive the 1986 and later charas (Runamuck, Steeljaw, etc) because the themes had already been dropped by the 1985 ones. Don't get me wrong; I like Blaster and co now, but they were originally a mistake.

Hasbro has tried to make transformation themes again, but the success varies:
1987: vehicle-bots, beast-cons; Beast Wars: mammal bots, insect-reptile-saur cons; Armada: urban-bots, militay-cons, the most similar to the original themes, but also early dropped by their own Jetfire who, as a difference to the original one, had no excuse for being a good guy space shuttle.

Why no combining Dinobot Special Team? Stupid Hasbro.

Baron, remember that most Tfs from the first 2 years were reused figures from pre-existing toylines (Jetfire was a Valkyrie/Veritech), and nobody had thought then that the combined construction vehicles would need opposition.

Yeah sure, but what about in the twenty-five years since?

Found some neat customs:

My vote for worst ever T/F toys has to be the Action Masters, transformers that didn't transform into any thing.

That was because they ingested nucleon which knackered them up which did feature in the US Marvel run towards the end. Grimlock used it to get back the Dinobots injured during the Underbase Saga.

I know that's the backstory in the comic, but what were the toy designers thinking?
But as try to find something positive in most things, @least Action Master looked a lot like the cartoon characters :-)

My bro also hates the Action Masters, but I think nobody notes they included something very needed for Transformers: special vehicles and equipment. Before the Action Masters, even the playsets became characters (Metroplex, Trypticon). I'm currently trying to get a Shockwave, and if I find the Action Master one, I'll buy him.

The Micro Masters had transforming vehicles/playets too didn't they?

Hmmm, I had forgotten them. However, I find them worse than the Action Masters, because the Micromasters were a huge bunch of new guys (except for the japanese exclusive Hot Rod). I dont dislike them for what they are; the toys were nice and I even have some, but they were a lot of new charas in just one year; I can count the Triple Changers and the Pretenders, but I can't count Micromasters (unles I wanted to sleep).
