Hey I opened my 40th AM Bazooka yesterday! Felt slightly guilty but not for too long.........

I don't see the point in buying a figure and not opening it you can still keep it's packaging for value.

Don't think your getting my point irony - I'm meaning proper vintage or collectors stuff, moc. And, to quote comic book guy from the simpsons on that one "you opened it, it is worthless". Once opened, to a collector like me, it's at best loose with a filecard. I hate reseals. I think it's the difference between the different forms of collecting though.

Ah yes but you leave it in it's box then you can't play with it as any normal kid would have done back then.

I do collect misb but would always have one loose as well...

I'm the same as TKW - I collected MOC first, then decided to "finish off" my collection from when I was younger, and then the army building started....

To your quote Ironblood - that's one of the bizarre sides of collecting toys or, for that matter, most things. The less it got used for it's purpose the more valuable it is to a collector. Classic cars - the less miles on the clock the better - ironic in that every time you drive and "enjoy" your classic car, you are costing yourself in the value of it by putting miles onto it. Stamps - they are worth more if they are unused. Toys - again, the most valuable are those that have failed to be used.

Bizarre, but one of the ironys of collecting - we are collecting the items that have failed to meet there intended end purpose!

If you have a MOC figure to the tune of £100 or more there is no way you are going to open it. I think there is a difference between vehicles and figures, where the vehicle box if you can't see the vehicle for all you would know might as well be empty.

I will have a listing on ebay in about 30 years, vintage Singer sewing machine MISB, factory sealed. Bought one for my girlfriend about 5 years ago after much persuasion and it hasn't been breathed on

you never know what new stuff that's out today could be worth a fortune down the line, all the 10 year olds buying and opening those new HM Forces figures.....

Now that is very, very true GP. My Swordfish and Triad and stuff like that are in picture boxes, and you'd never know they are in there. They sit on my shelf next to Wolverine and Hyena boxes that are empty, with the actual toys in the cabinet (bought that way - lovely condition items and lovely condition boxes, so a perfect combination). I once got as far as opening the end flap of my Swordfish and looking in, but it looked so snug and comfy in there I just couldn't disturb it any further, so i put it back on the shelf!

Window boxed AF items display nice though!

Have the Swordfish and Triad been assembled, I would have to get them out, just for the sheer joy of applying the stickers. Plus then you would have 2 more items for display.

That's where the beauty of window packages comes in, you get to see the figure, or vehicle, and you also get the packaging art etc.

I've been kinda lazy with my box display, just had them stacked up against a wall, bigger ones at the bottom. The Skystiker box is suffering a bit, have acquired some shelves. Will post a pic once the display has been revamped.

No - they have never been opened at all until I softly softly opened the end flap and had a peek in. I then carefully got the instructions out and stickers and scanned them, before closing the box up. No lie - the cardboard had never been bent even and the sellotape was only loose as it had lost it's "stick" over the last 20 years.

No issue re them being available for display as I have no more room anyway!

Be good to see some pics of the display once you got it sorted GP. I never tire of looking at collection pics! Ashamed to report my Skystriker and Hovercraft boxes are just so damned big they have the items in them and are tucked at the back of teh garage behind the lawnmower!
