gi joe resolute.
Re: gi joe resolute.
Hi, just finally seen resolute and noticed a few things that i noticed, made me think of the action force vertion of some Cobra members, like how the Destro was a cyborg like Red Jackal. What made more noticed how more violent and ruthless Cobra Commander to his staff like the death of the red trooper near the end and the slaughter he did before hiding the bomb shelter. It made me think of the Ironblood version of the Commander then the Sunbow/DIC version or Hama's version. Learning that Warrren Ellis was the writer and had NO knowledge of the US version of the Joes, but did know of Action Force did conferm my subspicsions. Sadly still Cobra troopers STILL CAN'T AIM for the life of them, only one alley viper got lucky against Duke and that's it.
I do agree with DAMartin that Major Blood's Death was over the top, BUT Ellis's work is known to be over the top, if not for Hasbro I asume, it would be more of his normal bloody Gore and perverted flesh matter and a M or NC-17 rating. The idea of Duke being a jerk I also agree especally he wanted to KILL the Commander. He had every reason to, but what made Joes different for Cobras was the use of Justice not Vengence, and Duke crossed the line. Even Flint nearly crossed that like against Dela Eden, but still chosed Justice over Vengence. But this is Warren Ellis writing style, so that one should expect. Atleast he repected how the Joes and Cobra should be... well except Storm Shadow it was nice, but it remined too much like Cobra Commander Brainwave Scannered him to madness and died for a twisted lie and delusions.
At least as expected the writing is well done, just as was mentioned by DAMartin, a few charactors was a bit under or over done due to Ellis's lack of of GI Joe lore.

Re: gi joe resolute.
Ellis knows his Action Force, huh? Hmm, be great if we could get him to write something for the site!
Re: gi joe resolute.
True, it would be nice he did some work, but at the same time, as i said some of his work is pretty... graphic if not disturbing like the lizard queen breeding or the wall splatered girlfriend put example but his work that introduced the marvel zombies in the ultimate fantastic four and recently resolute do show he can censor himsell by the looks of it, i guess...
Anyways the Action force clue came up on his personal post about resolute on his website:
http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=6147
Added he was born in Essex, England in the 70's farther concluded he must know about them.

Re: gi joe resolute.
warren ellis was the best writer on Ultimate Fantastic 4. but Mark Millar did the zombie story...
Re: gi joe resolute.
Oops, my mistake, I thought that was the one he was commissioned on, thanks for clearing that up for me.Sundance wrote:warren ellis was the best writer on Ultimate Fantastic 4. but Mark Millar did the zombie story...
Re: gi joe resolute.
millar and bendis did the first arc 'The Fantastic', Ellis did the next 2 - 'Doom' and 'N-Zone'. Mike Carey did the 'Think Tank' two-parter. Millar did 'Crossover' - the first zombie story - 'Tomb of Namor', 'President Thor' and 'Frightful'. Carey then did #33 thru #49 before Joe Pokaski took over for the Ultimatum tie-in.

Hmm... we shall see. I'm thoroughly enjoying http://www.freakangels.com/
Thanks for the profile link but I must point out he refernces Action Man not Action Force. I love my comics graphic, but with an equal mix of dark comedy. Ellis is great at this as is Garth Ennis, who is also a lifetime Battle fan.

Re: gi joe resolute.
Wasn't Garth Ennis the guy who wrote "The rifle brigade"? That had a real old british war comic vibe to it..as well as being highly amusing.
More news, as its made, from new Action Force!
Re: gi joe resolute.
Yep! That one is one of my all-time favourites although it is a fond parody of Battle if anything. Aside from his 2000AD work he also wrote Preacher, Hitman, Just a Pilgrim and is currently riding high with The Boys.

As for his Battle-esque stuff, he did a oneshot for Vertigo under the Weird War Tales banner, two four-part DC comics entitled War Story, a Marvel Max WWI mini entitled War is Hell: The First Flight of The Phantom Eagle, Battler Britton for Wildstorm and is currently running a set of minis entitled Battlefields for Dynamite.
He signed Moose's guestbook at http://www.falconsquadron.co.uk. I am so jealous.
