Memory shot to sh*t, but what was the recent Liev Schreiber flick about three Russian brothers who ended up as partisans? Was good.

I seem to recall Defiance, not sure if I've seen it or not, sounds interesting.
Lawrence of Arabia is indeed a good flick. And Sir Alec, always good. A bit OT but my favourite film of his is "The Card". His first I think.

Has anyone else seen a Sean Connery film from 1965 called 'The Hill' (also starring Roy Kinnear)? It's set in a military prison in North Africa during WWII - pretty gritty stuff, even by today's standards.

I don't think anyone's mentioned 'Escape to Victory' yet; I've always had a soft spot for that one .

Oooh I love Escape To Victory, Michael Caine and Stallone, how can you not love it
The Hill is indeed grim. Good story and Connery is great in it if I remember correctly.
Another personal fave of mine is Patton. And Guns Of Naverone / Force 10 From Naverone. Where Eagles Dare, Ice Station Zebra... Any Alistair Maclean adaptation really...

Ice Station Zebra! Good call.
Sitting in a meeting today was thinking about Jack Hawkins in Bridge on the River Kwai, Oh What a Lovely War, Lawrence of Arabia etc. and also Ice Cold in Alex in general, felt I was missing something.
Something like an entire bbc 2 saturday matinee schedule as it turned out: there's the Cruel Sea with Hawkins, jumping from that there's Pursuit of the Graf Spee, Sink the Bismarck!, Reach for the Sky, Ill Met by Moonlight and one I can't remember and only saw three or four times as a child: it's b/w, about a British Spitfire pilot, the actor was like the British version of James Stewart (who was probably still bombing Schweinfurt in a Flying Fortress when it was made) and he is badly wounded in the air near the end. Ring any bells?
Also the great "Life and Times of Colonel Blimp" is a charming movie. Then there's Catch-22, great movie too.
And is Target for Tonight is a movie rather than a documentary?
Surely even more got left out ... there's the Richtofen's Flying Circus movie for instance.

Just found this news clip, covering the tragic death of one of the stunt pilots of the film 'Flight of the Pheonix', also some his other 'succesful' film plane crashes.
Warning, a couple of real life fatal crashes are shown as well near the end, nothing gory but I thought I better warn you all.
