I agree it would be awful. The transformation from ruthless Ironblood to the comparatively ridiculous Cobra Commander was bad enough, along with the sudden obsolescence of the original AF teams (I never got a good explanation about why they were so obsolete). For the powers that be to stuff up a great character a second time would be rubbing it right in.
But, like you say they've been faithful to the style of the Shadows and Major, so if someone did sound out the Inquisitor=Ironblood idea at some point I'd imagine (hope?) that someone put them in the picture about the poor reception it would get.
As much as I hate the idea if it's not the Baron then the revealed face won't mean anything unless it's someone like Zartan or Dr Mindbender from Cobra.
Spock, where the hell's the power you promised?
One damn minute, Admiral

The Baron wrote:No no, Skeletron is quite clearly an unmasked Kraken.
not anymore! when ironblood (who is under the interrogator mask) dies he has transports himself into a different clone, the dead ironblood becoming a skeletron!
there we go, all sorted.
and I think it might be ironblood... a lot of the clues seem to fit...
