Baron, yea, good idea - that would work. Or, a ring etched close to the base...
Another solution that people have used (that I forgot to mention in my earlier post) is to make the piece out of very different plastic (for example, more flexible plastic).
Luckily, there are a lot of different ways to go! (My preference is the red... I still think that would look sweet!)

i like the red idea too, not mistaking it as not an original and it matches the prototype /picture on the box which is always a cool thing

Great News!
Today, I finally completed my Z Force APC!
I received a custom green aerial. It looks practically identical [99.999999%].
This was only one, for me to check. I've given the guy the big thumbs aloft now, so 20 more will be winding their way to me soon-ish.
All of you that emailed me regarding this will be able to have one [or 3 or 4 as some of you requested!].
I'm ordering 20, so first come first served. The sooner you send payment, the sooner they will be reserved for you. I guess that's the fairest way
to do it.
They are identical except that they are hollow, see pics, to make them recognisable from the real deal, so if you wanted 3 [1 for yourself and 2 to
flog on ebay as originals in 6 month's time] then sorry but it ain't gonna work! 
We seem a pretty honest bunch here, so I'm sure that no one was thinking that way!
Anyway, they are £6 quid per aerial, postage free. Email me for my paypal account.

Talking of red ariels, if you use the Pacrat missiles on the stinger, it looks like the one on
the back of the box with the black fins.

I had an email from the guy making these aerials this week telling me that he hoped to send me half [10] in a 'couple of weeks', so by his current pace I would say that's more '3 to 4' rather than '1 to 2' weeks' time.
Soon as they arrive, Buddusky [2], celticjoe [1] and airedevon [4!] yours will be sent out straightaway.
The rest who want some but haven't paid, the first to pay will be first to get theirs.
One other thing: Looks like the red ain't gonna happen I'm afraid.
The guy tells me that no matter how much red dye he uses they always turn out pink [!] for some reason,so I guess that's a no-no.
Anyway, thanks for the patience, I'll keep you all updated...
