Your welcome, I did look for a cap badge then I thought you may mean a shoulder flash with it being on a background.

i thought it would be easier to upload the pic rather than try to describe it.

I will have to try and find some info on the Eastern Command to get a bit of insight.

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Yep my Dad took it, It probably has their names on the back of the photo but it has been sealed for over 60 years so I can't check it out.
Like his other photos some have names on and where they were killed, or un p.c. names written on the back mentioning the local population.

my one grand-dad was unfit for service and helped build Mosquitos in the war as he worked in a furniture factory as a French polisher in peace-time.

dunno what paternal granddad did.

i know he wasn't in the RAF or SOE or anything exciting so i dun' really care. never knew him anyway.

That's a bit harsh Sundance, just about everybody had a part to play during W.W.2, no matter how small or mundane, it all helped the war effort..
My Grandfather was a farm worker, so wasn't drafted due to being an essential worker, but he served in the Auxilary Fire Service, long nights on fire watch after a long hard days work, so no he may not have done anything very exciting or gone into combat..but soldiers & the country needed food to fight.

My Nan repaired lorries for the army. Up unitl the day ashe died she could still remember how to remove the engine and strip it down! My Mothers Father was a gunner with Costal Command on the Sunderlands and then later became the skipper of a rescue launch. His cousin was Air Vice Marshal Sir Anthony Selway. Phil Selway the drummer with Radiohead is my cousin.
