i think one thing to think about is to really push the link between af & joe as far as the uk goes, it is a part of joe history & more people are gonna know joes. try to get media, should be able to get someone to pick it up!
totally agree

Also Action Man has been much bigger than even GI JOE has been in the US, that link needs to be pushed seriously

I think the problem with Merchandise is that most of us here tend to have what we want AF wise? And that which folks dont have I would personally doubt would be in the hands of dealers? I'm sure I may get lynched for this, but I'd honestly guess that later AF/Joes, Customs fodder like the Indy stuff and (takes a deep breath) 25th Aniv stuff would likely sell better and make Vendors more profit?

Steve is right.

As a vendor, if you are going to commit money to something (of which, their support would dearly be needed to help towards costs), you will want to have the best available idea of what to bring.

The numbers of PURE Action Force or Action Man dealers out there are small, and although they would have monopoly, it would be hard to convince them to pay way more for an unproven show, hence why a lot of these questions have been asked. All the information would be presented to potential dealers to gain their 'buy in' and support for the show - unless you'd all be happy to spend £100 each on ticket entry?

In addition, whilst it might be cool to have them there many of you would say something along the line of 'how much???' as you are more used to ebay and not toy shows (and I can see this happening) which generally are slightly higher to be able to cover costs (the benefit though is getting to check the quality of items before committing). You need the wide range to spread the risk.

How many of you would spend a hundred quid on a vintage Action Man compared to those spending £15 on a boxed 40th Anniversary soldier?

Things have to accessible for both sides.

Whilst the emphasis would need to be on AM/ AF/ JOE, if stats can be shown that a percentage of the attendees are interested in other areas, then that would benefit everyone overall - helping vendors commit to coming and knowing what to bring and knowing there is interest in those areas and attendees from catering their other tastes.

Once the first few are out of the way, you will see people catering more directly to the show, but you have no hope for success or them coming back for a second show, if you only have pure AF/ JOE related collectables.

I think Memorabilia in March showed me a thing or two - I was a bit worried that if there wasn't much AF/Joe stuff that we might not have a lot to look at.

How wrong could I be?

Whilst the day was certainly AF/Joe oriented (meet-ups, searching out a couple of bargains, meeting Dave Tree and the Dave Tree Crew) I REALLY enjoyed looking through the mountains of other stuff. If that could have been topped off with some interesting talks from ex-Palitoy workers or this feller what posts on here what sorts out the Palitoy archive, and some AF Dio-Displays and maybe some nutters dressed up as AF/Joe characters (I'm not going to use the word "cosplayers" here as I hate it) then it would have been EVEN BETTER

that's my tuppence-worth :)

I guess it might help to bounce ideas around as to what other things people think Baron Von Tree may have missed, or stuff that people would be looking for? Figure stands? Comic bags? Figure bags? Repro weapons? Figure display cases? T-Shirts? (non AF included - although I'm sure there'd be guaranteed to be one of them there!!! ;-) ). That sort of thing.

Again, not necessarily saying those are things that I'd be buying loads of, but more your impulse purchases, rather than your "AF or nothing" stalls. Easier to spend lots of "a few quids" on stuff, than one big purchase?

I certainly never went to Memorabilia expecting to buy my Silver Surfer T shirt off Tree, but it was too cool not to, and is now one of my fave pieces of clothing! Same with Comic bags - been meaning to buy some off the internet for ages, but never get round to it, so when saw some at Memorabilia I just picked them up. Wasn't a matter of whether they were a pound cheaper on Ebay - they were there, I had money in my pocket, I bought. The old fashined way, and lots more rewarding it is too! If a Vendor were selling acrylic cases I'm sure folks may be tempted for a few, as the extra quid or two you might be paying to the stall holder would be more than offset once you consider that normally we have to pay postage from the States. That sort of thing. I guess if people showed up expecting rows upon rows of Action Force stalls they'd be sorely disappointed, so it's a matter of tapping into the other, fringe interests we all have outside of AF, or the things loosely connected to it (the customs, the displays, that sort of thing).

Dave - get someone there selling Queen Memorabilia - then none of the Toy stall holders will get any of my money as our lass will have spent it all on pictures of Freddie Mercury! And if you could combine it with a stall selling vintage Gramophones for Annie I'm sure between the two stalls they'd make a killing!!! Me and Eddie would be pissed off though!

And, sounds stupid - how about a Convention Exclusive Pint Glass - either engraved with the Shads logo, or printed onto it? I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I can never resist a fancy new pint glass? I have them from all over the world, wherever I go I seem to end up with one - be it Vegas, Australia or the local! Sure they'd not cost too much, and I'd bet most going would pick one or two up? Even the straight edgers or the teetotallers amongst us would have one I'd have thought - dont need to use them for beer!!! Just theirs would last a whole lot longer than mine, as I tend to put mine down on the patio whenever we have a BBQ, and then accidentally punt them into the oblivion when I'm half cut.

As I say, just ideas, but I think we should all try to help Dave out here with ideas, even if they do seem a bit daft at all? Come on, dont be shy!

(check that out - a whole post from me without going off on irrelevant random tangents or swearing lots. Bollocks.)

Or, as I put it to Rachel - "Forbidden Planet on Steroids".

on the same sort of lines, the car club I belong to had some "100 Years of Austin" beer done for them - standard small-brewery ale-type stuff (rather nice) but with Austin-specific labels. Automatically people were buying two - one to drink and one to keep (though I am aware that this only works as a sale item if you have one of those drinky licence things...)
