well part of my reason for living at home was my mother's past ill-health and the fact that i have an extremely low-paid job so i couldn't afford a one-romo bedsit never mind anything bigger.

i left home at 15 (well a few months before i turned 16) sofa-surfed, slept rough and squatted. did a load of really sh*tty cash in hand jobs until i touched for a flat and a legit job when i was 20. met the missus and turned my life around. bought my first house for next to nothing and sold for a fortune during the housing boom. now live in a very nice house in a very nice area
when me and the missus split a couple of years ago i moved into my dads, lasted 3 weeks. got to the point i was considering pushing the old ba$tard down the stairs. begged and pleaded then begged some more and finally was allowed back home.
i love being King of my own castle (when she lets me

)

I'm 33 (I know, I know - I barely look a day over 32 - it's my sprightly good looks and rigid fitness regime). Been away from home 15 years now - was just turned 18 when I left for Uni, and whilst I popped back most summers I was always ready to get away again when Sept came around. Never properly gone back since for anything more than a weekend, even thought the option was there for a while if I needed it.
Lived in total of 12 different houses since then, and this one is the first I've actually owned. I've lived in some dives and some really nice places. But I'd not change a thing. Even the psycho house mate who tried to make me go mad (literally - she was an evil bitch, I tell ya!) - you learn from these things, and it's what makes us who we are today (in my case a grumpy bastard today, but that's just that I'm having a sh*tty day!).
But if things had been different I would've gladly stayed home for a while longer than I did. And similarly if my auld man ever needed looking after or the family needed me, I'd do what was necessary.
I guess, in my waffly, pondering, internet philosophers way, I'm saying each of our lives take us down our own paths. There's no right or wrong - just what's right or wrong for us. Enjoy it, wherever y'all are or whatever y'all are doing. If you're not enjoying it, look for ways to change it to make it better. And if it dont need making any better, then you're a lucky bugger!

Many apologies Jaye, I kinda over reacted there...my own tendency for, & a sense of self deprecating humour probably didn't help either. I'm perfectly happy & contented with my lot in life.
Its just these preconceived notions that society & the media place on people really get on my goat some times.

you and me both.
i never understand the prejudice against council houses. what the hell's wrong with living in a house you rent and where you never have to worry about maintaining the house cuz the council does it for you? not everyone who lives in one is feckless scum with a drug problem and four kids with six fathers.

Could split it into two smaller farts if it would help? The slow release strategy??
