I never really suspected anything dodgy about second chances I got a few things that way on e-bay.

Not all second chances are dodgy I have made quite a few second chance offers when I have had more than one if it was a good price.
Ebay is a minefield when it comes to scammers though and I have had people not take up the second chance offers and maybe they thought I had pushed the price up by shill bidding so that may be why they didn't take up the second chance offer.
Mostly it was Action Force, joe or star wars stuff, So I just re-listed sometimes with the same second chancer who did not take up the offer paying more in the end.

Have to admit, these days if I get a second chance offer my instant thought is that I've been shill bid unless I really trust the seller. Call me cynical if you will, but I certainly think you can spot shilling. Not bidding much on ebay these days but when I do it tends to be a big snipe right at the end, and if I dont get it, then tough.
