Damned heatwave
Re: Damned heatwave
Stunned silence is right. I can't think of a thing to say.
Glad you're okay, man.

Re: Damned heatwave
In Melbourne itself, there's been no loss of life, only a few homes. Nothing like Northern Vic and Whittlesea. Every country has its share of destructive potential. In NZ its Volcanoes and Earthquakes, here its fire, in the UK it's freezing cold. I still remember Cyclone Bola. That's life I guess.
A lot of areas are closed off, considered crime scenes. Its going to be weeks before some of the fires are under control again. Best thing is tho, the Aussie bush uses fire to propagate. So in a year or two there will be heaps of new growth.

Hi folks. I just want to see if anybody out there would like to donate some money to the bushfire relief effort that is being organised by the Red Cross here in Australia!
I dont know if you are aware of what has been going on but basically we have had the worst bushfires in Australian history! The saddest thing about it some of these fires were deliberately lit!
There has been a huge amount of lives lost, expected to be over 200 ,700 + homes destroyed and victims here really need a hand in this time of need!
If you want to donate some cash to the effort click on the link below!

I have also linked some of the news headlines on this disaster so you can fathom the scale of this terrible event!
Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks in advance if you decide to donate to the cause!

Not content with having had lunch with Brian Blessed, and continually teasing us all with glimpses of long forgotten AF goodies, Mr Tree pops over to Oz and saves a bit of wildlife too!
Dave - I note form your posts the other day that you declared your undercrackers to be red - what you failed to mention is the blue leggings and huge "S" logo on your chest!
Is it a bird?
Is it a plane?
Nope, it's SUPERDAVE!!!!

It's also possible to make a donation in sterling (including GiftAid) for the appeal mentioned above via the Red Cross UK website.
I can't believe I went all these years never seeing a photo of anyone called David Tree, and then two come along at once.

Even as my faith in humans seems to get eroded a little bit more every day, this shows that we're not such a bad bunch after all.

Re: Damned heatwave
My blood's boiling a bit atm. Just watching the Greenies and scaremongers at work on the news tonight. Idiot's are blaming global warming and claiming its a sign of increasing calamity. Only a handful have even bothered to mention the lack of controlled burn off's in the last ten years. For thousands of years the Aboriginals burnt off, tree's here are built to burn. Eucalyptus leaves produce a very flamingo sap. Its like petrol at its worst. Previously there have been controlled burns in seasons were there is low fire danger. It allows the bush to propagate and removes fuel for the peak fire seasons.
The greenies have significantly lowered the amount of burn off's. Thus there are ample sources of very flammable fuel when you get consecutive over 40 degree days. To top it off the usual idiot suburban response is to say people shouldn't live in areas of dense bush. OMFG. I couldn't believe it, where do these idiots spring from? Its the same risk the idiot that made the statement would make crossing the street on a busy road. Wrap em all up in fireproof cotton wool scuba suits.....
ATM there is a risk of 2 fires north east of Melbourne joining up and threatening the city proper. Tho I'm assuming its a bit more scaremongering. Looking at the maps tho, they are pretty damned close. I'm near Chelsea Heights in Melbourne's south east.

Just venting a bit. The media is starting to get under my skin now. Only to be expected I guess. Still weeks away from getting the fires under control. Who knows what's going to happen.
