Indeed & agreed. The Baron wrote:Hmm... didn't that make his hair turn white?

I always felt Nightshade owed a little to the adventures of Charley Bourne's sea-faring cousin and Johnny Red's in the Arctic, and The Sarge to that of Charley himself (remember the Smith 70 character who lasted a good while until copping it while reading his Latin books?) All great BAF fare.
I suppose I'm just connecting hair turning white with hair going VERY grey.

Dunno, every single one of the Sarge's platoon got done in, didn't they? That's what made it such a good story. All these great characters being whittled down until there were none left.
I'm gonna have to re-read it now!

Sigh. Me too now. There was a story in a (83-85?) holiday special or Annual about Anzio, iirc. US soldiers that survive a mine going off. Great story and pretty damned spooky. Wasn't there a sister mag to Battle that touched on scary sh*t? THAT level of spooky. Not scary, spooky.

I think that was it, by jove. Not bad at all, mate. I'll dig out that Anzio story too, I think.
PS, bang on, Baz. I remember tales from the thirteenth floor. Friggin awesome comic. Wow, I'm reliving 1984. 12 year old bliss.

Simon Furman was its editor before he went on to write the majority of Transformers for the UK comic Chopper.

I've been busy reading

what a waste, a great comic. Its hard to imagine IPC writers and artists working for Marvel. It just seems odd.

Apparently there used to be joint sports events until 2000 AD acquired artists from Transformers who wanted to draw more than "bloody robots".
I re-edited my post as I got this info from one of the UK reprinted tpbs that are hard to find now.

Marvel UK was never exclusively Transformers though. there were UK orginated Joe, Thundercats, Real Ghostbusters and Galaxy Rangers strips as well as non-tie-in stuff like Dragon's Claws, Death's Head, Sleaze Bros. and so on...
