By the way, wrenching this back on topic, I did notice something in the film, along the lines of Pike saying to Kirk
'You have qualities that would be useful, qualities that have been missing in Starfleet recently' (I'm paraphrasing as I can't remember exactly what was said)
But I did think this was a slight comment about the latter captains. Slightly unfair as I doubt any of them, even Kirk, really stand up to Picard that well, and although the choice of writers in Enterprise was poor, I thought the cast were quite promising, especially Archer.
I was slightly offended by the writers of the film saying Trek was always about Kirk and Spock, and up until recently TNG was my favourite era, but since watching the film and particularly the Blu Ray TOS I find that more watchable. However it's all Trek at the end of the day, and whatever era/ship is your personal preference, when Trek does what it does best, there's not a lot to beat it.
