Re: STAR TREK; Nerdy uniform... for nerds :-)
The military argument is a tricky one . Picard would describe the enterprise as a ship of peace. Clearly it has a naval structure and for that matter a military mandate but it isn't military in the same way we currently use it. So whilst I agree they are military in one respect they are essentially a peacekeeping and exploratory force with a military structure and procedures. They are as much like NASA as theyare like the navy for example and I can't see either Picard deanna or Beverly describe startleet as military. Worf probably would though. I think both of your perspectives hold water and aren't mutually exclusive.
The enterprise arrowhead was intended to be used by starfleet as a tribute to kirks mission, the discrepancy is purely an onscreen error. If you count that as canon you have to accept that the nausicans wear wigs as seen in tapestry*, or that in Sela's office in Unification there really was a man with a hawiian shirt chewing gum!!** - along with numerous other errors
There's a thought in dr who circles that shows how differennt fans work. At the end credits some fans look at the stars and dream of space whilst others look for the name of the costume designer credits etc. A cliché but dpnstrates a point . For me star trek is about good drama good characters adventure also fun and good plotting with intelligent concepts. The movie had all of those in droves
* - Young Picard throws one on the floor, and he rolls away leaving his wig... (not Picard, though young Picard should have grabbed it while he had the chance...)
** - There's a plastic pyramid on the desk and one can see a production staffer reflected in it!!!

Actually it was Captain Halley in Star Fleet. There was Captain Carter too. Oh, and Captain Orion.

Actually, come to think of it I doubt Bones would join something he thought was military - he was very much a man who joined to explore to escape his broken marriage.
Anyway, moving on to MORE controversy...
Did the British successfully invade France?
Picard and his brother (and for that matter his dad's ghost) all spoke in English accents, Picard loved Shakespeare and drank Old Grey tea. However the Picard family have been there for years. Did we anglicise the French at some point? 'merde' as Picard would say, or at least until he started saying 'grand' instead!

STAR FLEET! I loved that show when I was a kid. I also loved G-Force. I got all excited when I heard they were doing a movie... but it turned out to be THIS instead...!
Weird!

Yes..., there go my chances of singing along to the Paul Bliss / Brian May theme music in the cinema! The Baron wrote:It's a Disney film with a FLY as a hero??
I thought it was wonderful that they finally worked that part of Bones' back-story into a film. He's just an old country doctor, looking for a new home.Malcolm Orr wrote:Actually, come to think of it I doubt Bones would join something he thought was military - he was very much a man who joined to explore to escape his broken marriage.
