Shang Chi incorporates characters from Fu Manchu as in the guy Christopher Lee used to play. I never did get the whole run of Shang Chi but it was very good. Here is more info on him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shang-Chi

Yeah, AF is what introduced me to Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu. The story included there is one of the best that Moench and Gulacy did. Reading through AF, I was amazed to see how unpopular it was! I believe they finished up the arc, then in the letters page it said something like "well, people either hate Shang Chi or don't care, so we're dropping him". I've finally pieced together that whole series. For a concept I thought had a lot wrong with it (Fu Manchu didn't interest me, the karate genre didn't interest me, the weird looking costumes didn't interest me..), holy crap is that some good spy stuff, some good character stuff, some good action stuff, and some AWESOME art!

Can't understand why it could be unpopular .. maybe coz it weren't a toy ?...who knows i'm a comic fan and a story fan so I knew this was awesome stuff ..what actually replaced Master? can't even remember?

Shang Chi had a guest appearance in an X-Men story after Onslaught which was very good it got me thinking about the guest spot in Action Force as Clive Reston also guest starred in X-Men but was crippled by then so I would like to read more Shang-Chi to find out more about both characters.

That X-Men story was the first thing I read about Shang Chi, even though I had heard about him before.

I'll have to dig up that X-men story--you've piqued my curiosity! I love Reston, Black Jack, Nayland Smith, and Leiko are almost just as interesting as Shang Chi though! Do any of them make it to the more modern stuff?

The last series Shang was in was Heroes for Hire the most recent run none of his supporting cast was in it as far as I know. Reston was retired in the X-Men arc I think others were mentioned in it the story centred round the Elixir Vitae Fu Man Chu developed and Kingpin and Sebastian Shaw making comebacks as crimelords.

In that story, Kingpin had some ninjas working for him, and he said they had previously worked for Shang Chi's father (never said Fu-Manchu explicitly). Did those ninjas appear in Shang Chi's classic adventures?

I don't think Master of Kung Fu has been reprinted in trades DA I was looking this up the other day. I would buy an Essential Master of Kung Fu maybe Marvel will do it eventually.
