My Pa had to lose his exceedingly thick Aberdonian accent when his family moved down here at the age of 12, his new school chums ripped the piss out of him - I guess it doesn't work the other way round! He can still get it back fairly quickly when asked to "address the haggis"

Just food for thought: once an American reaches a certain standard (financial, education) they switch to a (fake) British accent. Why? Because it is so much more sophisticated than that whining Yankee accent. In other words: Britisch criminals are posh compared to their US counterparts!

it's just so ridiculous how three different Scottish towns/cities were all clamouring to claim Scotty as their son, and then another town is whinging because the villain (supposedly) comes from their town. it's not real, people!

be grateful your town didn't have a friggin' nutter run around machine-gunning the place or something.

Personally I love the way we British are cast as villains. We are always the cool, sophisticated Bond style villains, which is fine with me!

And it's true what they say about American lasses loving the English accent - when me and a few mates went to the US a few years back now the accent went down very well (insert rude joke here..............................) especially away from the touristy towns.

We were punching well above our weight that holiday, I tell ya, and all because of the sophisticated charm that is the English accent. Although I have to admit I did play the "Attorney" card on occasions too (once I realised that saying I was a "Solicitor" had a rather different meaning in the States! Ahhh, happy bachelor days (drifts off into remeniscing..........)

My brother in law had the same problem Annie but as soon as his mum and other family members are around he uses it again. Then again he was used to the piss getting taken they used to call him Mr Crowley after the Ozzy Osbourne song. I find the scottish accent sexy on girls my first girlfriend was scottish but also mentally unbalanced but you can't have everything.

Personally, I think you have to make a big distinction between north and south when you talk about English accents. I can't think of a northern bad guy in a movie at the moment?
