I thought the pose on Red Laser looked different to the usual, that explains it.
Looking at the helmets closely it seems that the Trooper and Patroller have slightly different designs, you could well be right about them being scratch built. Now you mention it they look remarkably like the 12" Action Man Space Ranger (?) helmets.
Id like to have a go at the Cosmic Cruiser Prototype one day, I've got a few spare bits I can use, just need to think about those guns, they are very different from the production ones.
