It's the seller who decides whether or not the auction is private, as far as I know.

mine is shand_28 and if the seller hadn't kept it private you would have just seen me lose that lot of 76 men :(

i thought ebay made all bids private now.

only the seller and buyer can see their details.

i much prefered when you knew who you were bidding against, made it a bit more personal

It also made it easier to check history of those you are bidding against and thus decide how much you really wanted the item. Probably why they stopped it.
