From what little that I've seen of "extreme", it seems the media & story lines were let down by the toy line itself.
It was a brave break from the older toy line,am I right in thinking Kenners design team had a brief to update Joe & try to compete with toy lines like Power Rangers?

............................
this is 100 percent accurate. the depth that they went to in the story was unpredescent in the animation area of GI JOE. it was like every character ( almost ) had a snake eyes/storm shadow LEVEL of back story to them. it was great

yep thats right, read the interview with Ben the lead designer of GI JOE EXTREME and thats exactly what he says
toys crap
Cartoon, best joe ever story and writting wise
comic, not as good as the cartoon, but no where near as bad as the toys
had these guys been done in 3 and 3/4th inch fans would have thought differently

Can't remember the name of the book, was it called Toy Wars?, that covered this period of Hasbro's history as well as being good read for fans of G.I.Joe..any way, when they did research with the kids, the children asked knew very little, if any thing about World War 2, but could tell you every little detail about Power Rangers or the X-men..so it's not a surprise the Sgt Savage line failed, shame really 'cause I quite liked the look of them.

see the thing is about Beast Wars is, it was a part of GI continuity, it tied directly into the old cartoon
thats what made beast wars so brilliant , it was well written, aimed at a more adult audience and tied into the original cartoon series brilliantly
