I try to not get exact duplicates, even for the generics (I mean, if there's moire than 3 versions of, let's say,

s, better to build a "variant army"). However, there's some exceptions:
1) If the faction has just a few generic guys (

, Cobra-La), there will be need to buy the same figure several times as an army-builder.
2) If an exact generic figure is re-released in a 2-pack with a "must-have" (e.g. what if 25th anniversary Crimson Guard is some day re-released with Joe Colton?).
3) If it's part of a HUGE load of figures. Because of that, I have two v2 Alley Vipers. I guess my v1 Alley Viper looks like a squad leader along them.

What I have done with Cobra is get different troop types and then at least 3 of different ones having the dreadnoks and some Iron Grenadiers gives me a large enough force as well.
In charge of the majority troops I have Major Bludd and Scar Face and Tomax & Xamot in charge of the Crimson Guard with Overkill in charge of the BAATs and Voltar in charge of my Grenadiers with Krieger as his second in command and Zartan,Zandar and Zarana in charge of the Noks.
My Red Shadows are smaller in comparison more like a mercenary unit than an army but I have Black Major and Black Scarab in charge of my Shadows with Red Triton in charge of his Kraken hybrids and Red Lucifer in charge of my Mutons.

I've never really been into army building myself, as I dont have the space or funds for it...but I like to have @ least two of each of the Corbra troops for display, but thats just for coolness & display value for the personality figures like this:

Just like with Star Wars figures, the Emperor just looks a lot better with 2 Imp' gaurds standing behind him,as does Vader with a couple of Stormtroopers in tow.

i like to army build sections. groups of 20, 19 troops and 1 officer, i would like 20 of each like 20 red shadows, 20 crimson guards and so on. Cobra troopers is slightly different i want more 95 troopers and 5 officers. Don't know why though.

i want to be able to display all my toys instead of them hiding in boxes, thats why i'm looking rid of some of the larger stuff.
i think i have enough room for most of my figs tho.

by my reckoning, there's about 85 different Cobras...
and that's counting only one of each, not counting the hooded, helmeted, battle armour, BC and talking commander versions of

for example... or the original, Iron Grenadier, BC and Star Brigade versions of Destro...
